School Groups and Birthday Parties
Create special memories at Schwallier’s Country Basket. We can help you plan an event customized to your group’s needs.
We have a large variety of activities, including wagon rides into the orchards; pick your own raspberries, apples, and pumpkins and more. The upstairs of the barn can be reserved for your party (call 616-785-9896 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for rates), with picnic tables set up and available for your use. Contact us today to discuss your group needs.
During the months of September and October, Schwallier’s Country Basket will open the orchard to give school groups a firsthand opportunity to visit a working family farm. Weekday apple tours are led by our knowledgeable staff members and are a great educational experience. Students will learn about the farm, pollination, growing and raising apples, harvesting apples, and other fun farm facts.
Each tour includes:
Educational talk on the apple cycle from pollination to harvest.
Time to visit with the farm animals, including baby goats.
Fun time on the slide and the straw barn.
A snack time consisting of a fresh donut, apple, and a cup of cider for each student.
A trip to the pumpkin patch to pick a small pumpkin.
A tour of the farm market store.
Play Area & Rides
Our kids’ play area is a perennial hit! Children can feel on top of the world—or at least the farm—when they climb the straw mountain. The whole family can cheer on the fastest ducky in our new duck races.
Children can take a ride on our cow train, or the whole family can head out to enjoy scenic views of our orchards with a guided wagon ride. There’s fun for everyone at Schwallier’s Country Basket. (Note: Cost for the cow train is $2 per seat. Cow train and wagon rides are available weekends only, weather permitting. Children’s play area is open every day that we are.)
Farm Animal Barn
Come pet the animals on our farm, e-i-e-i-o! The baby animals in our barn are friendly and frisky–they love to play with visitors to Schwallier’s Country Basket. Interacting with animals on our farm is a great way for children to learn. We have goats, chickens and bunnies, oh my!
