Ok. I am new but I just got back from Transworld and I think I have my plan. I am going to open a haunt here in SD and I want to do it right and real. I am going for an asylum theme but my question is on revenue return in the off season. I saw that "Last Ride" coffin ride at the show and here is my idea. I was thinking of purchasing that ride and bringing it to some state fairs and large regional fairs. I also may??? bring it to the Sturgis motorcycle rally. I was also thinking of taking my 20x30 tent along and set up a portion of my asylum in the tent at the fairs and sell a package deal for a tent walkthrough and the coffin ride. My thoughts are this would help cash flow my main event in my building in the main season.
Has anyone done this or tried this type of thing? Will people pay $10 to do both or $5 each? Or do I just plan on the main event in the fall? Any insite will be appreciated.

There have been a few threads on the last ride. check them out so you can get more opinions. I suppose you have a viable idea, I think at a fair or carnival however you could get away with (and should do) a much looser generic theme. The mind set of a patron at a festival is very different from the mindset of a patron at a haunt. I think that $5 for both attractions would do much better for you than $10 would. the casket ride I seem to remember does decent at $3 a ride. A small haunt set up could have one actor (with decent actor halls) and be very frightening.
At these events do not forget to have your merchandise! Tshirts are big at places like that and if you can put the logo of the event on as well as your logo then you greatly increase the odds of them buying a shirt. I would go into these events with the attitude that they are marketing for your halloween event as opposed to money makers.
If you have a make up artist (especially airbrush) then they can do face painting for money also.

dont forget insurance on the ride. Give some places a call and get quotes for the last ride.

Use Ken Donat he insuranced ours. I caution you on this purchase. We didn't have good luck and some issues with ours. It really depends on the area you are in and the crowd you try to pull. We didn't have luck and wasted our money. Traded it for something else. Some people have a lot of luck, we didn't.

Hey we have done this at the farm fair in our area it has done well, we also have done a tent haunt with it no charge on the haunt and $3.00 for the coffin ride $10 or $12 with a tee- shirt but it did well and if you take it to sturgis you should do very well........rip........Legends of the fog

Ken is my insurance guy haha funny.. I heard they were hard to get insured. Does anyone know how theme parks insure rides? Do they use just one company for all the rides or is it specific per ride? One for food? Stuff like thatů. J/W

Contact the local chamber of commerce and all the chambers around you. They will have a list of all upcoming events.
