That is awesome John!
After this past season my biz partner and I decided to part ways and keep our 20+ year friendship in tact (which is more important to us) so we're not opening this year (neither am I as the building owner is selling the building and wants no haunt this year in it).
So hopefully next year solo or with a new partner I'll open, building found pending...LOL
Good luck, and enjoy it!

congratulations that's great news. Awesome building too looks like a winner. Did you say you actually bought this building? Must have been expensive!

Not going to believe where I found it. EBAY!
Appraised at 2.3 mil bought for 76,300.00.
I can sell the entire kitchen and air conditioners for the price I paid....

You hit the jackpot that's even sweeter! Is that listed on the regular ebay site or is there a real estate division? Like they have for cars....

HERES THE EBAY LINK...

Congrats man, that's amazing.

What is the zoning, are you sure you can put a haunt in there? Taxes really high?
05-09-2010, 08:22 AM
CITY HAS NO PROBLEM WITH A HAUNT THERE AND THE TAXES ARE 2900.00 PER YEAR.
I know... to good to be true...Im waiting to wake up from it.....
NOW IS THE BEST TIME TO BUY ANYTHING FOLKS!!!!
05-09-2010, 08:32 AM
AWESOME! What a deal John I'm sure it will be become an awesome haunted house!
05-09-2010, 08:35 AM
How are the taxes so low on a million dollar property like that? My house taxes are higher than that....
05-09-2010, 08:39 AM
I have no idea. That was one of the first things I double checked with the tax assessor's office. Cheap Cheap Cheap.

You got an amazing deal, and what a place to contruct a haunt in for many many years.
Are you planning on a multi house show or just one big one?
05-09-2010, 07:40 PM
While we applaud John on his amazing deal, for the rest of you guys in buildings don't you typically lease the space instead of actually buying a building?
For a building as big as John bought on the east coast would probably cost twice as much as the original asking price. Can't imagine too many of us being able to afford that on a month a year's operations.
05-09-2010, 07:42 PM
WOW! That's all I got. Just wow!
05-09-2010, 07:48 PM
two words....INSANE FIND!
05-09-2010, 07:59 PM
he did. being in rural ohio dosen't mean crap. build it and they will come... good luck, man
05-09-2010, 08:28 PM
Being in the real estate business and handling foreclosures, you stole this building! What an awesome find. You did better than anyone could have imaged.
As he said on the Ebay post, "Cash is King". Congrads to you!

Thank You everyone! I will keep you updated with photos when we start building. Also, plan on opening another house near my last location, just need to find the right place.....

Cortland, OH is near Warren (far East side of the state, not too far from PA).
05-10-2010, 07:09 PM
I'll give you $76,400 for it.
05-10-2010, 08:28 PM
WOW! A schoolhouse for $76,000! That's as good a location as Randy Bates' new haunt! Hope all goes well!
05-11-2010, 04:58 AM
All I can say is HOLY S#!T.. nice find .. really nice..
You could have either one HUGE haunt there..or quite a few individual. And possibly go year round :)
Jeeze that place is HUGE :)
And I will also "mirror" what others have said ..
PROGRESS PICS ..definately.. will be interesting to see how it comes together.
Wish we had something like that here (Lockport,NY) that was available and if we had the money .. that would be grand.
Best of luck to you.
