View Full Version : Pappy's Cousin?!
02-23-2011, 07:55 PM
That's right! Skip Steele and Niki Puto - the people behind the famous Pappy's Smokehouse here in St. Louis - have done it again! Last Friday, they opened Bogart's Smokehouse essentially right next to The Darkness and Soulard's Market! Same Pappy's quality and service but more food options.
This place had better be ready for haunters in March! "Pappy's" by the haunt? What could be better?!
I'll go there soon and post a review! :)

What are the nicer steak restaurants near the convention center?
02-23-2011, 08:21 PM
20 South 4th Street, Saint Louis, Missouri
That's a suggestion from Kip's wife. Other than that, I'm out. Any other St. Louis peeps have suggestions?
If you want the hands-down best steak in St. Louis - go to Lemp Mansion. It's pricey but sooooooo worth it. :)

A bunch of us went to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse last year.; pricey but completely worth it.
Lauren, I need to try the new place next to Darkness!! Maybe a pre-tour dinner on friday night? Ill be in costume as well.

Larry's favorite place is Soulard's Restaurant. It's 2 blocks away from The Darkness.
Check out the food photos here:

...O and he loves Pappy's BBQ, so I'm sure he'll be trying this new place too. Thanks for the tip, Lauren!

Here's one I like a lot... Lucas Park Grill, http://www.lucasparkgrille.com. It's only a couple blocks down from the convention center. It gets fairly busy on Fridays/Saturdays so I'd dine earlier on those days to beat the crowds, or go Wednesday/Thursday instead. Great bar too!

Allen a good place for a steak and also excellent ribs or food in general is Jakes Steaks on The Landing. Its owned by the Pointer family. They also own and operate Lemp Mansion. Excellent food as well!

Great, thanks for the suggestions everyone.

You could dine with supposedly "real" ghosts at The Lemp Mansion restaurant. While waiting for your food, they'll let you roam the entire house looking at everything. You can stand in the actual locations where people lost their lives to gunshot wounds, like William Lemp Sr AND William Lemp Jr. Walk the stairs where Charles Lemp shot his dog prior to taking his own life upstairs. http://www.lempmansion.com/
If you havent yet read about the St. Louis haunted history of the Lemp Dynasty, you've got to get your hands on a copy of HauntWorld Magazine issue #26.
Man, that's a crazy history for a famile and for 1 house!!
I may have to eat there this year.

The haunted history of Lemp combined with its amazing food makes it my favorite restaurant in the world.
I need to try Jake's Steaks if it is owned by the Pointers, then...

Cool I like food at a good smoke house. I'll have to try Bogart's Smokehouse sometime as well as The Lemp Mansion restaurant. I would love to check it out cause of it's history.

Im some what of a Lemp Historian. I love the history and the tragic tale of the Lemps. Even though it all lead to a tragic end to four of the Lemp family the legacy lives on. Thats cool there will be a story in Hauntworld about it. I've done everything possible at Lemp Manision, Ive ate there many times. The all you can eat Sunday buffet is the best! Gone on the guided tour. Ive been to the murder mystery theater which is great! I have spent the night there and ghost hunted with my ghost hunter group. Actually recorded actual evp's. And taken pictures of ghosts forming in William Lemps room. I have drank in the bar till they closed. I have bought and drank Lemp Beer which is still brewed today by a different brewery. Also I have gone through the haunted lemp caverns. Its a wonderful place whose legacy lives strong to this very day! The Haunted History of the Lemp Mansion is a great book on the dynasty.

Is the mansion close to Larry's haunt at the brewery?

Let get a group together and get a table at the mansion and have a round table discussion on haunting.
This would be a great way to go to a new restaurant and come up with some haunt ideas for everyone.
If anyone interested PM me and we can work out the details. I am driving there and staying at the Ren.

Ya Lemp is on Deminil St. And The Lemp Caverns are underneath the street. You make a right turn west on Cherokee St. And then another turn left. Not sure the name of that street. But then the entrance will be immediately on your left. The entrance to the caverns is through one of the old warehouse buildings to Lemp. You used to take an elevator down either 5 or 6 floors down. But I think I heard you take stairs down to them now. I would be up for a night at Lemp. If I can get away. Gonna be very busy. You gonna be in town on Wednesday night? That maybe the only night im even free? Unless we go Thursday night before Shanes party. I stayed there the first year Transworld came to St.louis. It was alot of fun.

I just found out about a special dinner event at HOUSE OF SAVOY (upscale Italian restaurant located inside Lumiere Casino/Hotel), and it's the evening of March 10th! Not sure of the price, but I'd guess $60-$100. I can't go because of The Darkness tours (www.TheDarkness.com) but some might be interested, so I thought I'd post. For information or to make a reservation, you can call 314-881-7830. (Free valet service at Lumiere, too.)

Piece of advice... DO NOT under ANY circumstances drive out to Pappys after say 6pm. They run out of food and if you ask me that is the dumbest thing I ever heard of. You get up to the register and they'll say all we have left is BOOM so that makes picking what you want to eat EASY!
Go before 6pm or forget it!

Me Lauren and Ashley all went to Bogarts on Sunday before they dropped me off at the airport...We all for some reason got the Pulled Pork...but I asked about the "Sausage Fatty" and they brought me a sample...It was the best thing I think ive eaten anyway...Next time forget the pulled pork...long live the sausage!...Thats going to come back and haunt me isnt it
02-28-2011, 10:45 PM
LOL Yes, it is Tater.
I talked to one of the managers there and let him know that a bunch of haunters are headed for Bogart's and Pappy's in 2 weeks and he's excited for it! He remembers all of you from last year - "oh that's when people were wearing those crazy contacts!"
Bogart's is DEEEEEEEELICIOUS! The sausage is amazing - soooo flavorful. It's smaller than Pappy's so be ready for that, but it's everything we love about Pappy's and more!
And Larry, the reason they run out is because everything is FRESH. Unlike your sense of style, music, cars, catch phrases...
The times listed on their door at Bogart's says "10am - 4ish (or whenever we get tired)". They are NOT open on Sunday's or Monday's, so if you plan on hitting it up on your way outta town, you won't be able to. Pappy's should be open though!

Ya thats what we heard about Granny! Tater. She loves the sausage! Ha ha!
