View Full Version : What paint to use on vacu form panels?

If I order the vacu-form panels unpainted and need them to match a room, what is the best way to get regular latex paint to stick to them well? I have never dealt with them, it just seems like regular latex wouldn't do well on this material? Maybe a plastic bonding primer and then latex over the top? If you have dealt with this let me know! Thanks!

I like doing what you said and it works pretty well, the kryolon plastic spray paint and allow that to dry-then paint with acrylics or latex. I had to seal the ones I did with polyurethane and and that may have helped the longevity.
I considered using PVC pipe primer on the panel before painting -Im sure it would help the bond but the fumes would be excessive.

The simpilest solution is to prime them with solvent based primers, automotive red oxide or sand and fill gray. Get the cheapest one you can find. Another solution we used in the Film Industry was to dust them with Spray 77 glue from 3m, then paint. It works very well!
