Salem, Ore. – The Oregon School for the Deaf, whose Nightmare Factory haunt was remodeled last September by the ABC show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will be hosting the second annual West Coast Haunters Convention on May 13th - 15th in Salem Oregon on the school grounds.

Started in 2010, this convention brings together both professional and home haunters to share the best way to scare up a fun time this October. There will be 40 education workshops and classes taught by local haunted house owners and national haunt gurus, on everything from costume making to starting your own haunted house.

The convention also brings in Halloween vendors from all over the country, many of them donated the props that were used in the makeover of the Nightmare Factory... The Nightmare Factory is taking this opportunity to open the haunt for one evening during the convention so that many of the vendors that participated in the Extreme Home Makeover event can see their props in action.

“Sharing the experience with our kids is the best part.” said Ed Roberts; Dormitory counselor ads founder of the school’s haunt the Nightmare Factory, Oregon School for the Deaf. “The Nightmare Factory continues to be a large fundraiser for the school and having the kids being part of the haunt, this is a great opportunity for them to meet and learn from some of the best professionals in the business. The kids also get to improve the haunt community that has helped them so much by providing this convention to other west coast haunters.”

Tickets for this weekend event are $40 for the weekend (some classes have a materials fee) and are available on their website. www.westcoasthauntersconvention.com

NOTE: Local media are invited to visit the convention and Nightmare Factory haunted house to get an inside look at the ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project as well as interview the vendors and workers that made it happen. This is a rare opportunity and time slots are limited. Please contact Ed Roberts at 503-378-3825 for more information.

About West Coast Haunters Convention
Started in 2010 this convention was created to serve the growing haunt community on the west coast. Starting with 12 vendors and 20 classes their first year they have more than doubled that size this year with 32 vendors and over 40 classes and workshops. This unique event is put on by the staff and students of the Oregon School for the Deaf. The students that run the Nightmare Factory get an opportunity to work with and learn from the haunt community by hosting the event at the school. With the Nightmare Factory Haunted House as one of the main fundraisers for the school, one of the goals of the convention is to teach other schools how to create a similar fundraiser. This idea was so novel that it pulled at the heart strings of the producers of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition that they remodeled the entire haunt last year as part of their special Halloween Edition.
