View Full Version : For whatever its worth, just heard from Transworld

03-28-2008, 01:20 PM
So I had called them earlier this week and they got back to me moments ago. According to them, the show WILL be in Chicago at the Rosemont Jan 16-19. Course, I will not believe it til I am standing at the center, but just wanted to pass it on.....

03-28-2008, 01:23 PM
Also, I had gotten an email from them like Wed thanking me for attending so I had replied wondering what is going on. Here is a copy of the email that was in my mailbox a few moments ago....

Thank you for your message. There were many rumors floating around the
show floor in Las Vegas. We are DEFINITELY holding our 25th Anniversary
Show on January 16-19, 2009 at the Rosemont (Chicago) Convention Center.

We are expecting record breaking attendance and look forward to seeing
you there.

Please reserve these dates!

I hope it is in Rosemont in 09. I mean I will go anyway if it isn't, but I would prefer it to be back in Rosemont. I know the weather will probably suck but I will deal with it.

Maybe the people who run Transworld might be pandering to the new costume company Yeti International specializing in Abomable costumes all blizzard rated!?

03-28-2008, 01:58 PM
i got an e-mail from them too. it stated that over 9,000 guests attended the show. wasnt the expected number like 30,000 or something or did i dream this. seems alittle off the mark.

Bad idea!!!! I have read nearly every post related to Transworld and it seems like the only people who want it in Chicago are the ones who live within driving distance.....It was there for what, 12 years prior? It's boring up there, cold as hell, and it ran it's course. So many better cities were mentioned for the convention. Having a convention in Chicago in January makes no sense. Now they might as well really mess things up and move the Bloody Mary cruise to during hurricane season!

Can someone do something on the rest of our behalf? Let's get behind Rubies on this and make a stand!!!!

03-28-2008, 02:28 PM
I am from the south in Bama Roll Tide Country!!!!!! Myself and crew love to go to Chicago love seeing the snow and the cold dont bother us its a nice change! Thats just my poinion. But let me say this Orlando has been mentioned let me tell you if you thought Vegas was high just move it to Orlando and be ready to offer your first born child to them Vegas is the projects compared to Orlando as far as prices go. But anyway I loved the closeness and how people get together and talked in Chicago that did not happen this year in Vegas and I missed it. Dont get me wrong for 100.00 I could get a crab infested anal wart toating whore for conversation every ten feet! Chicago is cool with me. Bring on the cold and the snow we gonna play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

03-28-2008, 02:33 PM
People get together at the crown to talk because there is absolutely nothing else to do. Orlando is not as expensive as Vegas, come on now! It is expensive but not Vegas expensive. Maybe have the show in Chicago itself then, not in some boring suburb!!! Hey you're from Bama, why not move it down there!!!!

Even though it's a 4 hr drive to Chi town for me and half the price, I'm pretty tired of it.
I might be passing on it this next year and catch the earlier show with Rubies.

03-28-2008, 02:50 PM
Thank you Jeff! I hope that's a sign of things to come!!!! Houston sounds like a great city to play host to a new start!

03-28-2008, 03:32 PM
You just made me fall out of my chair laughing!
About the whore remark, sorry if your a kid under 18 do not read that remark.giggles

Hey we are in BAMA too! Its hot here and Chicago will be a nice change, we are
definately going in 2009!!!

Huggs everyone

Jeff failed to Mention that Rubies doesnt want a HAUNTSHOW at the RETAIL show.
thus there not being a Hauntshow in Houston...... I fear that 2009 is going to be a clustercluck

03-28-2008, 04:08 PM
If you want a building that big you have to let them know way in advance. If they can't get a big show, most centers have the capability to partition the room and solicit two or more smaller events.

03-28-2008, 05:48 PM
Kimmy, that' the problem, Chicago is not a change, it's the same ol' same ol'. It was in Chicago for what, 12 years in a row? You midwesterners are spoiled! :)

Body bagging, if the Halloween and haunt shows are split, the show would be pretty lame for us. The haunt section is so small it's one and done. Rubies seems to have more power than the whole haunt section by themselves. If they get their way ten it might only be a haunt only show, and that you can hold in some gymnasium somewhere!

"Jeff failed to Mention that Rubies doesnt want a HAUNTSHOW at the RETAIL show.

Not totally Rob. MHC will continue to do what we do in 2009, offer an entertaining and educational event with a tradeshow that rivals any other haunt convention out there :D

03-29-2008, 02:42 AM
BARRY! MHC is the only CONSTANT in a world of CHAOS!!!!!
MHC is the Must ATTEND EVENT on my calendar each and every year.
I have to say How impressed I am with the growth of MHC,

03-29-2008, 03:59 AM

Is there any chance of moving up the MHC a few months to during the winter? Since you guys do a great job, maybe we can just have a haunt show and have all the big companies come to your show with their new line up for taking orders and not worry about Transworld anymore.

I was going to mention that Barry.
MHC is the show.

I would be lieing if I said we had not considered it. It is definitely not a possibility in 2009 as there is no convention space available before June here in Columbus. Depending on what the industry wants and needs, we will have to wait and see what 2010 will bring.

have all the big companies come to your show

Who exactly do you mean? Scarefactory will have a presence this year. Unit 70 is across the street basically. If someone would like to extol the virtues of MHC to Distortions for me it would be appreciated. Who else should I be going after?

03-29-2008, 07:50 AM
Scarefactory will have a presence this year.
Way to go Barry! What was that nonsense I heard on other forums about bigger vendors not wanting to do smaller shows?
I'd love to see MHC become the industry tradeshow. I know you guys started your show because you have a love of haunting. It isn't just a business venture for you, and that is what makes something great.
Transworld is cool. Transworld is the old tried and true standard, but at their heart it will always be what's most profitable to Transworld. It's just my opinion, but I would like to see the industry standard be a show that has the industry at its heart.

03-29-2008, 08:01 AM
Thank you for the kind words.

What was that nonsense I heard on other forums about bigger vendors not wanting to do smaller shows?

Well, the way I look at it is:

1. What does everyone consider "bigger vendors"? Oak Island is preyty big in my opinion and they are coming here and did HC last year. Distortions went to HC last year. Other than those companies already mentioned, who does everyone want to see?

2. I do not consider MHC a small show anymore. LOL There are 58 vendors signed up now and many more to come. :)

03-29-2008, 08:13 AM
You are right about that. It is no longer a small show at all. I was really impressed with it last year.
I'm going to have to try to make it again this year.

03-29-2008, 08:24 AM
Ok lets bring the show to a nice dry corn field lol or I will open my farm up to the show. That way when you get tired of the show you all can see my collection of exotic animals such as tigers, leapords, camels, zebra, monkeys, llamas, birds and thats just to name a few. Then we can open Graystone ( free of charge on us I might add) Then we can zip down to Birmingham and visit Paul and the gang at Atrox!!! Kimmy it might be a little to far to hit your haunt but you can come and stay with me (winks) Would anyone agree to Alabama as the host city? Also here in Florence/Killen area there is a real haunt tour of haunted houses that are really haunted. Also a 5 star hotel Marriott.

03-29-2008, 08:59 AM
For it to be taken as serious as Transworld, you'd need Unit 70, Scarefactory, Distortions, Oak Island, Gore Galore, Fright Props, Ghostride, ACC, Studio Tek, you know the usual suspects plus as many new vendors as possible! Sorry if I did not mention you as a vendor, there are many that I left out, poor memory....:)

03-29-2008, 09:01 AM
Shane I have got to say Im Pretty Comfortable with MHC in Columbus!

Barry It is AMAZING how HUGE MHC has become in just a short time......
GoodBye Transworld Hello MHC!!!!

03-29-2008, 09:47 AM
I'm not ripping on anybody here, just my thoughts, take 'em or leave 'em...

TW is much larger than we like to think we are (or certainly than I like to think I am). If Rubie's and California Costume Company and Leg Avenue don't show up then Transworld is not Transworld. I don't shop these that often but they are what make the Transworld show happen. Without them you just have a slightly larger HauntCon.

03-29-2008, 09:52 AM
You're right, that's what I was saying. It would be a one day show, that's ll you'd need really for just the haunt section. But at least with MHC it's pretty close to many key vendors....Transworld doesn't need the hautn show, so maybe it's time to pack up our toys and move on....I like having all three shows together, but things are now in the works and change seems to be coming....

03-29-2008, 10:24 AM
I gotcha Angel... arguing the same point from different angles. I'm with ya!

Did Transworld print a book full of all the exhibitors for Vegas like they have always done before?
That infamous Vegas tv news("We're just a bunch of bored alcoholics") show of the show said over 700? exhibitors were there?
700? Really?

03-29-2008, 06:52 PM
Just received some literature in the mail from that show that's going to be in Houston. They extoll the warmer temps down in Texas in January. Good advertising.

03-29-2008, 09:20 PM
What are the dates of the Houston show on the flier, and do they have a website associated with it?

03-29-2008, 10:27 PM
The dates are Jan 24 - 27 2009. My gosh, the week after TW. Who'da thunk? Could this be why TW changed dates and place? The website is: http://halloweenpartyexpo.com/index.php?msg=ok
