So, is that just a pull over sock mask? What is prosthetics, what is makeup?
If you can achieve a look like that with a pull on mask, you are a God among haunters!!! Tell me, how long does it take to apply the look in the photos?
maddi005
09-01-2008, 10:53 AM
i cant speak for jason on how long it would take, and ofcourse it always takes a bit of time when you are video taping for the DVD...but i will say this about the sock masks...you can look very realistic in just a few minutes once the mask is painted and done...and they are very durable...my granny (RFR 'ask granny' fame) was made back in 04 and i still use the same mask...i have worked the queue line and no one has ever said anything about the mask, some dont even realise it is a mask...another one of my favorite characters, samus the jewish demon, gets rave reviews from audiences everywhere i go....they are also great if you are running short on time in the makeup room or someone comes in late...put a costume on, blacken out the eyes and around the mouth, pull the mask on and let'em go...i love them

It really is not that difficult to make a regular latex appliance look good, it is difficult however to take your time and do it the right way when you are excited. Strangles the clown took about six hours to do (keep in mind we were video taping the make up) I love latex appliances for a haunt... You or your make up artist can make them up prior to the event and put them to use in minutes, and best of all the prices fit into anyones budget. I believe sock masks are the wave of the future when silicon masks or silicon appliances are out of your financial reach.

I have to give Jason a big A+++++++++++ for Customer Service!!! I not only liked the DVD, I recommended it to Larry when I was down there for the weekend. The method in use of the DVD is easy to follow and with some work can give you a kick ass product that you can use over and over.
Honest story, I just did a three hour photo shoot for a local haunted trail this evening. They called me last night to ask to give them shots for their press release that they wanted out Tuesday. They are a week behind on it and the owner is out of town the rest of the week. I walked in there with a dozen of the sock masks done up and several odds and ends prosthetics. I ended up using the sock masks, did a guy as a zombie using one of Screamlines bases with the chest from Fearscape Studios. Honestly, 15 minutes to touch this guy up and make a very pale girl into a dead girl 70's style. It was hands down the best looking shit I have ever done and this was just the photographer showing me the shots as he flipped through them. Hopefully he gets me a couple of copies in the next day or two I will post them.
With what is on that DVD you can make some FANTASTIC custom one of items that are a Screamline or whomever base that you will be proud to have. That DVD is WELL WORTH the $15 to get it to your door.
On that thought... Jason I am all out of latex and my turkey is dry, can you help?

I just wanted to say thanks to Jason for pimping the new DVD as we are now officially sold out (and I was saving those!). I might get a few more made up before the end of the season, but don't count on it.
Thanks folks for the great response. You will not be disappointed. We will continue to take orders for them with the understanding it may be a few weeks before I can get them out to you. We hope to have a boat load available at the next trade show, whichever one we may be at.
Thanks again!

Jason, Are all of your masks made with the slush/slip latex? Not foam. Out of curiousity and this can be taken to PM, but do you have several molds of one design or just one mold and make as many casting as you can get?
A Haunt partner and I have been thinking of sculpting our own for our haunt purposes to keep spending costs down. So figured making in house masks. Could come in handy in the long run. I wasn't sure if thats how you had started out, making for your own haunts, and then developed into a business.
I'll talk it over with him and we may get that bundle, since now we don't have the time to make our own, but it would give us start to finish out our props that need heads on....lol.

Gothy,
WOW i am going way way back to 1976 when my life was all about universal studios horror figures(frank, dracula ect. you get my point) as i reacted a whopping age of 17 "1987" i had a dream of making halloween masks?? two weeks later i made my very first mask "horrible is being nice" Within a year or two i started selling masks to all the local costume shops, and realized it was never enough, so i applied as a set designer for a local haunt "nightmare in painesville" very nervous going in , i got the job ............The next year i became the head set designer!! 24 different haunts later i said i needed a change so i went to joe blasco make-up center east, and became a true make-up artist! the same day i graduated wowoooo i won the tacky 10 con MAKE-UP AWARD!!! Many months later i did some work with fox turner and then started doing movie make-up and more haunt stuff, yet it was never enough so i applied at a local studio for a gig doing the batman and robin stage shows for six flags through out the world (ya now we are talking) I got the job and loved it...
but it still was not enough... A set design or haunt or two later !! me, steve and todd "maddi in the end" Said lets bring screamline to the masses.... So here we are many years and sacrifices in life later!!! just for the people we are, and the people we love..... To truly answer your question GOTHY yes we have many molds for all our pieces but alot of our sculpts are from movies, stage shows, or haunts.. If it saves money to do your own than i say have at it!! and never look back (just keep screamline studios in your head if you need latex) I love seeing this industry grow!!!! And it makes me proud even if i was a very small part of it all.....

About two weeks ago I posted on what can be done using the methods on the DVD from Screamline. I finally got a few shots from the photographer. Honestly this is less than 20 minutes of costume and makeup time for a shot I was told about the day before. I just took with about a dozen of the masks from Screamline setup as per that DVD and decided what fit together on the spot.

Hmmm, I will - probably some big headed no talent hack!
LOL - seriously - our video was shot and edited by Shutter Productions (Geoff Beck), known for such great works as:
Playing with Fear
Haunting Makeup Volume 1
Hauntertainer University
and countless more
What makes the first three DVD's stand out more than anything in my opinion is the beautifully crafted cover designs and artwork. Now whoever did that must really know what they are doing, because they were even able to make Geoff look good!
