What size groups do you normally have and how often do you send them through.

If the line gets really long, do you increase group size or decrease intervals?

Is there anyway to avoid the dreaded slow group that holds up 4 groups so all of a sudden you have 16 people in one group?

A good size of group to send through is 4 - 5. Send couples that are by themselves separatly, if time allows.
If you have plenty of time, work out a signal with the 2nd or 3rd scene and the ticket taker. That should allow adequate spacing of customers.
That "slow" group will always be an issue. This is where a good raoming actor could come in handy. They could toss in some extra scares behind them to keep them moving, as well as notifing the front of the house that there could be a backup and to give extra time before the next group.
As for big lines, my opinion is to never increase the group size. The chances are good that groups will meet up somewhere anyway if you're busy, and a bigger group would only result in a bigger pile up.
