Hey for our garage haunt we were thinking of using pallets to create slat walls? Is this a good idea or are there better alternatives?

Not uncommon at all. Just make it east to dis-assemble. There's even a schematic out there on haunt walls with ceiling included all out of pallets. I don't have the url, search haunt design, and haunt blueprints.

Pallets will work. Sand well because splinters suck!!!!

I'd love to see some pics of pallets used as walls it could be a great idea for a mine theme....I would imagineyou could get them for next to nothing if you know where to look.

Some thoughts to consider about pallets:

1. Most pallets are heavy and need to be braced well.

2. Most pallets are rough... nails, splinters, and loose boards are common.

3. Most pallets are extremely flammable.

Not trying to be a downer but when you consider all the extra work, those "cheap" or "free" pallets are not always cheap or free.

I remember asking a similar question about pallets....

just search pallet walls or something in the search box and there should be many threads on this already. I think someone even posted some pix.

We got 300 free pallets delivered last year at our haunt- took forever to use- heavy, not uniform shape from where we aquired them, and often unstable unless braced well. In the end, it made for a very nice, creepy maze- but it was a lot of work. Those were all 4x4 pallets, or around that.

This year we got 8x4 pallets hoping it will be a little easier- they are more like instant walls. In terms of free materials, they do the job well in my opinion.

That all sounds good! Pallets seem okay but they seem like a big mess to tame. I mean how hard could it be to make rotting mansion slat walls. Cant be to expensive right? Any other ideas?
