About Chop Shop
I currently work in ink, acrylic, watercolor, enamels, and water clay. I sculpt, paint, draw and airbrush in the traditional methods. I?ve also worked with digital photo editing and desktop graphic design. My beginnings as a graphic designer reach clear back to actual photographic darkrooms and the old style methods of cut and paste graphic design (even using hot wax to paste up pages of corporate product catalogs!) I also worked several very exciting years as a drag racing and hot rod artist for Los Angeles County Raceway. In the more recent past I've owned a small garment screen printing business and designed and marketed a boutique clothing line under my own trademark. I also served as an apprentice for the current leading silicone mask company wherein I learned an enormous amount from a highly experienced creature designer, along with one expert mold room technician. I?m currently working with my son to further expand our own line of horror themed latex rubber masks and props (sculpted, molded, cast and painted by myself) under our moniker "The Creep Factory". In the very near future, we intend to launch an online store and include some new, additional merchandise options. As an outlet from the hot rods and monsters that race through my imagination, I explore wildlife and pop culture icons through paint and canvas. I've also taken a big interest in up-cycling cast off materials to solve my everyday work environment problems such as studio lighting and small space storage. As a fringe benefit of work with recyclables (trash essentially) Ive found creative solutions to otherwise boring interior design, while keeping an emphasis on industrial decay (which follows my vision of what a true "Creep Factory" would look like).
