  • playing scary movies with nude / jason , halloween etc.

    Hey guys,
This season I was planning on having an outdoor movie screen setup and was wondering how most of you felt about playing scary movies with a little nudity and cursing. with that in mind ,most scary movies have these elements in them to some degree. Also most of the folks who come out are older and have most likely seen these films. so my question is do I play the classics freddy, jason, halloween, etc. or do I play some charlie brown halloween special ???

Also I'm sure most would argue that Disney or Universal don't play these movies and its unprofessional and the only haunts that do this are the select few hardcore haunts I was also just thinking about playing music videos from select artist
just let me hear your thoughts
I also wanted to add that most would say they knew they were going to see blood and guts but no nudity, some will say this is very distasteful and disrespectful to women. such as lets say for a couple on their date it might make the girl uncomfortable or a mom and dad bring the kids they might feel uncomfortable and also some would even say where dose this kind of stuff belong in a haunt when you can play other movies such as the ring, exorcist, grudge or white noise

    Again just some thoughts
    thanks

I personally would try and stay away from playing movies with nudity, but it really depends on your crowd. I know some haunts out there claim to be the most hardcore haunt or whatver and have props of naked women butched with their boobies exposed...

It really depends on your audience and your haunt.
    Just my two cents.

I know a few haunts that do play these movies and yes most haunts have some crazy props even unit 70 has some ripped up girls but these are props and are not broadcasted to the whole audience

      thanks for the feedback zach

We play them at ours. If they dont want to watch it, they dont have to. I mean its their choice. A lot of horror movies have T. AND B. Tits and blood these days.

I went to a haunted forest/hayride combo about 2 years ago. And they had a big bonfire burning with a giant projector screen playing the movie, The Hill's have eyes. I thought it was kinda neat. And there was actually a lot of people around the fire warming up watching the movie.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm kinda' wondering, do haunts usually charge for people to watch the movie? Or do you jsut let them watch it after purchasing a ticket?

TCHAUNT: You can not charge to watch the movies because of copyright. You can show a movie as long as it's for entertainment.

We show OLD movies at our haunt as a form of entertainment outside. I don't recall their being any real major blood or nudity. People seem to enjoy the real old (now cheesy) movies. It doesn't seem to offend the parents with kids. We have done it for two years now.

Oh yeah. I didn't think about that. Thanks for the warning. Knowing my luck, I would've showed the movies and got arrested.

Many years ago I had a TV inside my wrecked taxi cab at my front door and I was showing a video that had been in theaters for many years yet had not come out on VHS yet, it was a very popular movie and I'm not going to name it here . (No confessions in print today, thank you!)
The neat, funny thing to me was how all of these people who had driven 3 hours from Chicago to the middle of "nowhere", "Hicktown/Nothingville, were all wondering how I had a copy of something they all wanted but they couldn't get it?
Needless to say (but I will anyway) this got their attention!
They all had to wait a couple of more years before they could buy themselves a copy anywhere!
                  (Insert VERY evil laugh here~)
..and so.. my reputation took seed and began.....stinking up the room!

                      My 2 cents

I think you should be fine as long as the nudity and swearing isn't every 5 seconds.
The chances of your younger customers swearing more than the movie are pretty good anyway!
I wouls stick with some classics that have brief periods of nudity due to ratings at the time.
i always liked the movies where the "no-no" spots were things you had to search for as opposed to being handed them on a platter. C'mon, who has time to put their bra or pants back on when you're running for your life?

Also, any concerns about licensing rights? Our sponsor nixed the idea of movies on TVs around the queue line...

I would post a sign at your ticket booth saying that the movies you show are R rated. I think there could be a problem with parents who have small children showing movies not rated for them without their parents consent.

                            ok...

If your haunt is "haunt enough", why on earth would parents bring their little kids to the event??? I don't get parents who take their small kids to haunted houses - not geared toward them - and then they complain about how their kids are scared.
                            GRRRRRRRR.......
                            Whew, I feel better now.

We have a large midway with a huge screen and we show HOTC quite a bit which i do know contains nudity.
Serious;y i don't think we get any bad feedabcl but then again we have a haunt not recommended for anyone under 13.

And yes some parents still bring their kiddies and in any dispute we point at the signs.
