What about the wall sconce type vases with some lovely dead flowers, maybe some cloth and lace trimmed tissues? Spiders possibly too...you could even get some petrified remains all wrapped in web? Catacombs too with bones and stuff embedded into your walls, maybe a little shrine table with photos of the desceased with some dead flower arrangements, trinkets like rosary beads, etc. ?

In the entrance of mine I made 3 walls of small doors that would hold urns in them with fancy name tags.

Wow, thanks for the help. Here is a pic of the entrance. I plan on planting bushes right below each of the shelves. Again, thanks for the help!!

Looking at the outside I picture seeing old rod iron fencing and arched gate entrance with about 10 feet of depth to look like a court yard and plant something that will grow on it.

Sue,

You can buy a theatrical color gel sample swatch for very cheap. We took these, cut them into shapes and spray adhesived them onto a round peice of plexi and back lit it with warm LEDS and it looked just like a moon lit stained glass window.

Step 1. Find the shape window you want. It could even just be an old square, wooden framed window pane. Ours was a large circle cut out of plexi and then we made a 'pie' shape and cut out using black electrical tape on the back side. I then used the electrical tape to tape out a spiderweb pattern, but you can divide your window however you would like.

Step 2. Cut the theatrical gel swatches (its what they use to color a theatre light) into random shapes and fill the defined spaces by spray adhesiving it like a mosaic. This is great for kids or helpers who do not have any artistic knowledge

Step 3. Hang it on the wall and back light it.

This adds another touch of realism to your mosoleum.

You can also find cool detailed old frames for pretty cheap. Take out the glass and backing so all you have is the frame. They work great for name plate decor. Attach to the drawer doors before you spray with your hard coat and bingo.

Let me know if you want to do the window thing. I have drawers of gel swatches and I could just send you a couple.

Erick, Kimmy and Ken THANKS! Some really great ideas. I checked on the gels. I am going to try that. I built 8 decorative shelves yesterday. Found a few urns. I had totally forgotten about urns......duh...... I should be finished (minus the stained glass) this weekend. I will post a few pics.

Also, you can find old lamps at rummage sales and thrift stores. Take them apart and they look just like urns!

I love walking through bodies on shelves- You could make it like a charnel house and have three "bunk beds with bodies on them. Decomposed to mostly skeletons. if you made 5' long by 2ft wide bunks you could put two or three bodies on each one. You could add a cheapo animatronic?
That could be over grown with grape vine and such and one spot could be left open for an actor.

Thanks Allen for your suggestions! I have the 2 bunks on either side as you walk in. I will have dead decaying bodies there. Here are a few pics of what I finished this weekend. I did not get done. I still have a lot of distressing to do and more to put on the outside. I plan on putting skeleton heads up over the entrance. I still have to plant a vines right below the shelves on the outside, thanks Allen. Great idea. Anyway a lot more left to do. I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up some cool urns. Thanks everyone for the help. I surely need it!

Know your not finished...

Sue I know your not finished and I know you said you got more distressing to do. But when I think of a mausoleum I always think of alot of grays and darker colors. This being white is kinda different. I would say paint some cracks here and there. And put a gargoyle or something over the door. Maybe flicker candles for an erie glow. More black streaks of paint like water and rain has aged it. Maybe so grays as well. Cobwebs. You need to cobweb everytthing. Maybe throw dust on stuff to to make it look like it has sit forever. Maybe take pottery and break it to make it look like its just fallin apart. Also scattered bones. And maybe some styrofoam painted to look like stones or rocks that have crumbled.
