..Or kidnapp the potential sponser's small children, then tell them if they don't provide sponsership, that you will return their children!

The IAHA Haunted Attraction Section in the April issue of TAP Magazine (Tourist Attractions & Parks) is all about sponsorship. Keep an eye out for it.

Always start with WHO you know for sponsors. WHO do you know? Maybe a person that works for the local lumber yard? A local plant or manufacturer? A local costume shop? A local Pub or restaurant?
And second - you get a proposal and letter of intent and background of your event. The more professional you look and can seem, the better your chances of landing sponsorship.

But - start w/ Family, Friends, and their workplaces... But before you start have a package of you and your event and actual sponsorship incentives, reasons and benefits for them also. "Why should I sponsor you?"
You can land sponsorships, just remember the worse answer you get is "NO"

And when approaching potential sponsers always park you crumby old Rickshaw around the corner so they can't see it.
Generally most people with money to hand out feel the most comfortable doing this if A) It isn't really their money, like a big company's
                OR
                B) You give them the impression that you really don't need it.
(Versus being a street-person who will rush to buy a bottle
                of booze with their money!)

"You never get a second chance to make a first impression."

                  Ummmm..... you ask them?

As far as selling points go, offer advertising / coupon space. Or, if they're willing to donate a large portion of your expenses (maybe 80%) you could even call it "The Pepsi House of Horror" or something.
