  • 8 x 8? room with drop panels

A while back on the forum I saw a video of a room that was built. I believe it was an 8 x 8 room that people entered, the door shut behind them, a panel dropped down on each of the 4 walls and monsters reached through as patrons huddled in the center of the room to avoid being touched. I have searched but cannot find this thread with the video on it. I would like to see it again. If anyone can help me locate it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

          wall drop

Heres a couple links to some pages where I talk about the room. The second link I get alittle more in depth with how I built the room.

Wow that looks like an awesome room Kelly, and great videos! I was wondering how this rooms works with your crowd flow since you have to close the door behind the group do you have problems with groups getting backed up or bunched together?
            Thanks

Thats a great question and something to think about when you build rooms where you intend to deal with each group indiviually.

Yes, there were problems from time to time. My rooms have almost always been in the middle of the haunt. So if we would get backed up it could make for a pain in the butt for the rooms before mine...And I definately herd about it.

We new from doing our preliminary runs that it would take a cirtain amount of time to run each group through and because of the time it took to raise and lower the walls there really is no way to speed that process up. So we had to be constantly on the ball all night long and get the groups in right away, do our scare, and get them out as quickly as posible without sacrificing the scare. We usually only had a couple of weekends that we were so busy that it was a concern so it wasnt usually a big deal.

Usually when a problem would occur is when they would start letting people in through the front door of the haunt at a quicker rate than what was set. We also had problems with some of the actors in rooms before mine that were not entertaining the guests much and just let them walk through very quikly. That would really mess up the whole system at times.

But for the most part it worked out very well and was one of the best, if not the best room of the haunt. In fact it was so well liked by the guests that two years later, I revived the room for a second time when we did out 10 year "Best of the Best" theme. And it was even better than the first year.

As an observer here I think you could do two of these rooms side by side and alternate which one a group went into and use the same actors for each room. It would help the flow issue quite a bit.

Great idea Allen, I have a Hellavator that is very close to the same type of scare we have been using it for 14 years and have the same back up problem, it works best as the second room to control the flow. last year it was in the first 1/3rd of the haunt and worked ok but had slow spots. i used for the first time this year a 16 cam control room and i could help the flow that way. loved the room and videos kelly.
