  • Repairing a Hard foam Body Prop

I need some advice in repairing a body made out of hard foam. First , I was going to cut small, steel rods and insert between the 2 broken pieces to hold them together. I well glue them together as well but not sure what kind of glue to use. This piece will be subjected to water so I need some kind of weather proof glue. I Was thinking of using liquid nails or low expanding great stuff.

    Suggestions please!

    Thanks,

Use gorilla glue, mix it with water and make a slurry. It turns into hard foam as it dries.

Will I have to worry about the Gorilla glue expanding when it sets up, moving the position of my two pieces I had joined together?

      Thanks

        Gorilla Glue

        Skullman~

Gorilla glue does expand but minimally. I have used it foe years of various types of items and also have used almost all the diffrent types of gorilla glue as well as the tape and they work wonderfully.(just make sure if you or anyone uses the tape you dont apply it to any finished surface or it WILL tear the finish off)

Just remeber with gorilla glue "a little goes a long way" the more you use the more expansion you will get.

        Good Luck.

It would not hurt to clamp the pieces together while they dry. But I have never had an issue with it.

            Allen~

I did forget about the clamping aspect .. I to have never experinced a problem with it sticking when not clamped . However, I have not used the "slurry mix" you mentioned.

But since he said he was planning on putting steel rods in the pieces I didn't think it would be a problem cause the steel rods in the foam would help keep the pieces together, depending on how tight of a fit the steel rods are in the foam.

However, the extra sugesstion was a good one

As an aside about the "slurry mix" what ratio do you suggest be used ?

just to thin it a bit. maybe 2/3 glue and 1/3 water, mix it good so it gets alot of bubbles in it. It also kicks in about two hours this way instead of the regular four to eight.
