  • Free time in St. Louis

Now I know many of you will have little to no time to go exploring in this wonderful city I call home, but if you do have a little time, I figured I'd post some things to do, if you are interested. I listed the contact information for most of these so you can just print this and bring it with.

City Museum - It's a big kids playground. Has a ball pit, fake caves to crawl through, huge slides (7 stories!), a Ferris wheel on the roof, a plane suspended in the air you can crawl to... just lots to do if you're looking for something active. There is a bar in the facility.

Lemp Mansion - An actual haunted mansion. Discovery did their ghost hunters thing there awhile ago. It's a restaurant (and inn). The food is the best food I have ever had. Pricey but sooo worth it.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery - FREE! It's only about 5 or 6 blocks from The Darkness. It is a 1 hour tour and you get 2 FREE glasses of beer at the end! Very cool tour.

The Arch - That big metal thing sticking up in the sky. lol You can ride up it and there is a museum beneath it. It's pretty neat.

Zoo - The zoo isn't downtown but it's not far. (3 or 4 exits from downtown.) Cool place. It is also FREE.

St. Louis Science Center - For those of us with a nerdy side. Also not downtown, but not far either.

Casinos - There is a decent one right across the river in Illinois and in downtown.

All of the bars, restaurants, etc are primarily on what is called "The Landing" in downtown.

If you want more ideas or are looking for something particular, let me know!

Two questions. 1 is there a speed pass for the brewery to get you straight to the free beer and 2 What do you recommend for restaurants in the area? Thanks in advance

          Two answers.
          1. LOL no unfortunately there is not a speed pass but if you work it right, you might be able to get more than 2 beers.

          2. If you're going for cheap, I happened to go to a certain sports bar near downtown a few weeks ago and it was a lot of good food for cheap. Once I can track down the name, I'll post it. LOL
There is a TGI Fridays down there that I enjoy.
Morgan Street Brewery is a fun place for drinking. I've never eaten there but you can do a bar crawl there without leaving the premises. It has several rooms/patios with bars.
If you want extremely good food, but at about $20-$25 a plate - Lemp Mansion. Hands down. That is where it's at - plus, it's haunted.

Larry, Kip, or anyone else from STL wanna give some ideas? I don't eat downtown all that much.

          Hope that helps!

Actually, there is a speed pass for the free beer at the brewery. You start the tour and go to the Clydesdale stables. This lasts about 10 minutes, then they give you an option to go drink beer or continue the tour. So yes, if you can wait 10-15 minutes, then it's straight to the beer!

Hmm. That's cool. I went 2 weeks ago and they said that that point was our last chance to leave if we needed too - maybe that was code for "go drink". lol

Right near the convention center last year was a restaurant called Kitchen K, the price was reasonable and the food was excellent, we went there I think three times.

We found a grocery store, www.city-grocers.com that had lots of good food including breakfast if anyone wants to check out the website. They also sold booze which is how my guys found it to begin with.

best milkshakes and homemade ice cream. also, there is a great rib and bar-b-que place there too. The name escapes me right now. Both places were featured on MAN VS. FOOD on the travel channel. all the food looked great.... look it up.

A great bbq/smokehouse place that I know of that was featured on the travel channel is Pappy's. I eat there as often as I can. I highly recommend it if you love bbq. Was that it?
