I have seen many threads get hijacked (Tony's being the most recent) in the name of MHC by our fans and I truly appreciate your enthusiasm!
I thought it was time again to give the newcomers to Hauntworld a little background on what the Midwest Haunters Convention is. In the aforementioned thread MHC was called a "mini Transworld" and that is probably more accurate than what the poster realized. When we created MHC we modeled many aspects after the only other show there was at that time - Transworld. We incorporated a free tradeshow, great education, and a Saturday night party.
The main difference, however, was that while Transworld is primarily a business/haunt owner show, we wanted to welcome everyone else as well. We wanted MHC to be the show that the haunt owners brought their actors and makeup people to. So while you will see many classes geared towards the business end of haunting, you will also find classes that will help your people get better! There was a another thread about bringing your entire crew to a convention and somebody mentioned that the owner cannot do everything themselves. That was spot on! We encourage you to bring your people to MHC and get them some great training.
We also realized early on that people have a limited amount of free time/vacation time to take each year. We knew that for many people to come to MHC they would have to use some of their vacation time and, because of that, they would be bringing their families. With that in mind we plan a lot of social activities and we work very hard to put together some great haunt tours.
What this all amounts to is that we feel honored, and humbled, by the fact that people come to MHC and then speak so highly of the show. That is truly the reason we work so hard on it. So, on behalf of the other organizers - Kelly, Neena, and Kathy, THANK YOU!
As always, I am on here regularly to answer questions. I just do not post as often as I used to. Feel free to email me or call me at 614-361-1466 as well.
Sincerely,
Barry
