  • Looking to get into the haunt industry in Orlando, FL.

I recently graduated from Full Sail University with a Film degree, but my real interests lie in the haunt industry. My ultimate goal is to work for Universal as part of the Halloween Horror Nights design team, but that's a very, very difficult position to land. Also complicating things is that due to nature of Orlando, independent haunts are nearly non-existent. Does anyone have any tips or pointers on what I should do from this point?

Glad you asked.... HR is a web based company that sells props and costumes, big and small. We specialize in prop rental and house decoration for the SE wisconsin area. We also design haunts for people as well. We are currently designing and building a Haunt right now in a abandon high school.

          I love my job

            Orlando Haunted House

Here are some other options besides Halloween Horror Nights. I'm sure you know of the Grimm House in Kissimmee. There is also a small haunt that operates in Altamonte Springs, http://www.myspace.com/fearintheforest.

In addition, there are two groups that I know of trying to start a commercial haunted house in Orlando. One is http://inthent.yolasite.com/ and the other is http://www.ScaryStudios.com

You may try to get involved with one of these groups or try to start something of your own. I own Scary Studios and think we are going to have to start out as a halloween vendor to make some capital to help fund our ideas.

In any case, the best thing to do is get experience. Even if it is in your spare time. Get your ideas down on paper, read lots of books, do research. Learn some, and then learn some more. The industry is always changing and the more you know and the more you can do, the better prepared you'll be when opportunity knocks.

Thanks a lot for the tips. I looked into all the haunts you mentioned, and I'm keeping an ear out for others that might pop up.
