Ceiling material

I am having a road block. What are you guys using for ceilings that is light weight without putting up osb or latice work? I have a mansion this year and need something to put over a few of the rooms.

Also where are you getting your pre-dyed black and flesh tone cheesecloth? I found white but not colored.

I just barrel dye my cheese cloth, or hit it with paint after its up.
As far as the cielieng goes
Jason from Screamline used Jute mesh to great effect for a cielieng
Depending on your fire needs (sprinklers) you could also use
Fire retardant block out cloth
Cloth- Victorian mansions often had printed fabric or even brocade fabric roofs, they looked great. The Billiard room at Graceland is a great example of that look. this can be really cool and classy.

Are there any pics floating around of the jute mesh as a ceiling... interesting idea.. we couldn't do the full fabric due to sprinkler issues

I used erosion cloth for ceilings at Nightshade (soaked in NYFS of course!)

Thanks guys. I am doing a lot of stencil work so very formal. I am having a hard time with putting solid ceiling in. The jute I am going to have to try and see if it looks formal enough. The fabric is cool, but I am certain expensive. I'll have to check my local surplus outlet. Good thought.

I've also seen haunts use camo netting as a roof. Not sure if all brands are fireproof, but they DO sell fireproof netting. Best of luck to you! We happen to have drop ceilings in the first half of our haunt before they extend up some 20 ft.

Why not make a drop cielieng using blue or pink foam as a panel material, nice and light and it could take paint well, just a thought.

Is there anything that is fire code compliant?
I know they don't like a dropped ceiling unless you drop your sprinkler heads as well...
Any ceiling that can trap smoke in, they do not like.
I remember hearing about a ceiling material that the seems melted in fire and then smoke could escape... anybody remember this?

ALSO.... we used Lattice in a few rooms with some burlap on it... got to find the cheap lattice, but it looks awesome! I always thought a chain link fence ceiling would look good as well!

Loews and Home Depot both carry a very detailed tin ceiling type product. They are 24 inch by 24 inch. They come in different colors and aged styles. They can be nailed or glued. Just a idea.

The tin ceilings I saw were cost-prohibitive, unless you are only doing a phone booth.
My neighbor has been selling scraps of old tin ceilings as "art" for many, many years but even his scrap pile is so small....My Grandfather used to be this area's distributor for those old tin ceilings, back about 1930.
I think some of the recent ceilings were made to look like metal but were really some kind of plastic...still very expensive.

Chances are you cannot get away with a hard surface due to fire code - So almost rule that option out right away. We use a lot of jute netting (ordered from china) and we are also able to use basic black landscaping fabric. The brand we have doesnt light to open flame. It mearly smoulders.
