Cave Process

I found pics of our cave being built 4 years ago. Maybe this will help with ideas on how to start your own cave. I built this inside 10x20 and 20x20 tents I used baling wire to tie chicken wire to the tent and pull it in the shape of a cave then covered it with weed control ground cloth and attached the cloth to the wire as close as I could with hog ring clips. Also used tying twine with a hook needle so i could sew it from one side.

Next I started spraying the handy foam and you can start to see it expanding

This was the finished entrance to it then coming out of a corn trail. It now has been moved to a new location and is free standing.

Very cool stuff! We started building a cave last night for our first season. I will take some pics of our process so people can see two different options in doing a cave scene. Similar, but a little different

Very cool. Am i correct in understanding that you were able move that and it is free standing?

How much tiger foam did it take?

Yes we moved the haunt to another part of the ranch and we cut the cave loose from the tent and loaded it on a trailer to. now its free standing. I believe we used 4 kits of foam. Thanks for your reply

I just have to say that I am truley impressed. I've been wanting to put together a Mine town theme for a couple of years, and your design now has my "mind running amuck"!
How many square feet did you end up with? And where did you purchase the Tiger foam, and how expensive was your project?

My wife corrected me it wasn't tiger foam it was handy foam here is the web address. http://foaminsulation.net/spray-foam-insulation.html its around $590 for a A&B kit and it came with some extra spray tips.the caves were 650 sq ft of floor space, the project was some where around 2grand. thank you for your comment and I hope this helps, contact me if you have any other questions.

Thanks for getting back to me. So you used 4 kits, and I see each kit covers 650 sq. feet. How how thick did your wall come out? Did you shoot the first layer on the inside, and then do a second layer on the outside after removing the tarp material?
Also, how well is the foam holding up to UV? And last, but not least, what kind of paint did you use? Latex or something with an etching compound?
I know I won't have time for this season, but I am already getting materials lined up for a build for next year.

1" thick, and only one coat on the inside (if ) you have your wire and backing close to each other... Latex paint and it was in the sun for over 2 years on half of it and didn't have a problem, the weed fabric seems to protect it from the sun...
