Im building a cave right now also. I am using Wire screen as opposed to chicken wire and shooting it with tigerfoam.
I think the chicken wire works best with burlap and plaster. you mix a wheel barrow full of thin plaster and dip sheets of burlap into it, then apply them to the frame. If you can put them on the outside first (so they are not fighting gravity) then you can spray plaster with a texture hopper from the inside.
Since you are so far along already I hope this helped a little.

Because Joplin has coal mining as a big part of its history, we've been working on a mine shack and mine shaft in the Raycliff Manor Attraction. People will actually enter the mind shack, which leads them into claustrophobia and out into the mine shaft. These pictures are without the final layers of detail, such as cob webbing, explosives and other warning signs, etc. Please forgive our lack of photography skills!

Like Allen, we did this with window screen and tiger foam...

    Pictures continued on next post...

I shot what I got done today, so here is how I did mine. I hope it helps. I will show the finished product when I get there. Frame is up, screen is up, and foam is up. Tomorrow is paint then Friday plants and lights.

Nice Allen. Now is this for your Trail of Terror or one of the other haunts there?
