Literature fans have a brand new place to experience fear. Horseman’s Hollow is a walk through trail graphically illustrating what might happen to townsfolk driven to madness by a headless horseman. Even better, it’s located in the actual town where Washington Irvington’s famous novel is set, Sleepy Hollow.

They come back to haunt visitors staying in an actual cell of what was once the Old Nelson County Jail in operation from 1797 to 1987. Visitors can skip the slumber but still get the spirits by going on a Bardstown Ghost Trek. Patti Starr, the tour’s leader and winner of the Top Ten Ghost Hunters for the past 4 years, swears you’ll encounter at least one spirit as you travel through jail and dungeon.

Bring the babies. The youngest visitors get to experience safe scares in what might be America’s only haunted house with Lights-On Hours. Not-too-scary thrills include themed rooms like Bone-Crusher Stadium, the Art-trocious Museum, the Heartless Hotel, the Scaregrounds, the Zombie Zoo, and the Spine-Chilling Speedway. Older children can go through during Frightening Hours (lights off but still geared to children).
