  • What do I Need? Makeup advice!!

OK I need to make 4 people to look cut up on the arms and face and well as some of the wounds will need glass coming out of them.

I know how to make the cuts i have made several and still have the molds for them so what ill do for that instead of buying the prosthetics will be to just make them. But i've been using normal casting latex but will this http://www.fxwarehouse.info/mm5/merc...ory_Code=RD407 work for putting in plaster molds? the flesh color would save me some time. and would be easier to work with.

second thing is what kind of makeup would be best for the bruising around the wound? I plan on using ben nye blood coming from the wounds.

lastly what can i use for the glass? I just need to be able to make it stay in the wound maybe with prosaide?

I have experience applying and doing all the makeup but it was all on myself just for halloween and whatever, now i actually have to do it for a production so i want to get what would be best instead of using what i have laying around the house lol

I do have an airbrush (Iwata HP BCS) so if i could do anything with that, that might save some time would be great.

BTW. this is for a stage show is there really wont be anyone super close up, so i wont do any real fine blending on the prosthetic but everything i do for this i plan on using for this season at my haunt too. I like to look the best lol

    Thanks everyone!

Yes that latex will work in your molds.
Use grease make-up or what is called rubber mask grease make-up. It will stick to the latex well and you can blend it into the skin.
The cheap way to go with the glass is make candy glass. We did a short film a while back where we used it for a victim of a car crash. Also, I think there is some haunt company that sells fake silicone broken glass pieces. They would work as well, or Smooth-on sells a product to make it yourself.

My wife and I had to do some quick makeups for a Prom anti Drunk Driving mock accident presentation, and actually had to do this very thing. 6 kids we had to put in elaborate wound makeup in less than an hour. We used combination of latex and cotton to soft sculpt wounds, then they wanted some glass, so in a pinch we actually cut up a flat clear plastic blister packaging I happened to have in my makeup kit for something...cut it up jagged and looked pretty convincing. For bruising if you like Ben Nye they make a great bruise wheel....I always keep at least 2 of these in hand in my makeup kit at all times. It is just made up of the best bruise mix of colors. If you have trouble getting the grease to go smooth/uniform over latex, I would suggest adding a couple dabs of castor oil onto the latex (buy it cheaper at the drug store in the laxatives section that through a makeup company...same thing).

      Hope this helps

I've had to do a makeup very similar to this on jearly zero budget or time to sculpt. I used clear silicone caulking laid out in a cookie sheet, then cut into random jagged bits once cured. If you rough up one side of the glass, it actually adheirs well with liquid latex. Finish off with some 3d gel around the wounds. Again... this is just the super cheap fast and easy route. The picure below is before the neck was blended.

Grease paint make-up will work well for the coloring. Useing red, blue, yellow, green and black or dark purple. And here is a site that sells fake broken silcone glass http://www.darksidedisplays.com/detail.aspx?ID=7841 or like Lurker said smooth-on sells the stuff to make silcone glass.
http://www.smooth-on.com/index.php?cPath=2_1113 bottom of the page. The blister pack that Jaks mention will work or use pieces of old cd jewl case too. And a bruse wheel works great.

This may be beating a dead horse, but since its for a stage show, can you apply the make up ahead of time onto a panty hose sleeve, that way it just slides on and the effect is finished quickly the night of. My guess is thet the actors are in scenes before they are wounded. I did a similar thing for my haunt one year, but it was spikes instead of glass (remember the spike guy from 13 ghosts?) It worked like a charm, looked great in the set lighting and went on fast each night. Maybe that will work for you.

I totally agree with Allen. If this is for stage and the actors are to appear "normal" first and mauled later, that would be the quickest and most cost effective route.

                Fresh Scab

For other cuts, however it wont be as three-dimentional, fresh scab stage blood could be implemented here.

Sorry to bring up an old post but i just found out today that the people will be up close and in peoples faces so ill have to make it pretty good detail. I have one week to sculpt, mold, and cast enough wounds for 13 people!! woo hoo! i can get them sculpted tonight as i will only do about 8-9 different wounds so that way i dont have to do 6 to different cuts for 13 people.

Heres the dilema besides my 1 week time frame i will have..... 15 minutes for 1-2 people. my plan is to have all of the wounds with makeup already on them and have someone putting pros aide on all of them so that way i stick it on and blend it. my big thing will be blending the edges. i will have to get it covered in one layer. then just blend the makeup. any tips on how i can get it done in this amount of time?

Kip at Pale Night sells some great Gelatin wounds. They are easy to apply and look very real.

                          Tip from my airbrush DVD-
try medical spray adhesive, it really speeds things up. Way faster than adhereing by hand.

For the time you have to apply Id seriously consider abandoning latex and going with water melon. Watch the video on it- its super fast to apply and blend.
