Very First Attempt at Airbrushing a Face

I got Allen's new airbrush video and decided to take the shiny new airbrush out of its box and finally run some paint thru it. OK.... I still have SOOOOO much to learn and need to play around alot more before I'm close to anything resembling good, but at least its a start!!


My extremely wound up tonight daughter was kind enough to sit still for a few minutes while I painted on her face and added some mud to her hair. I still have to learn how to get a finer line, but maybe that's my airbrush... I dunno. But I was brave and took the leap to paint something at least, LOL!

Great first attempt. Less air (can crimp the hose) and closer gets you a finer line. Looks like some practice and you will be good to go.

I too have broken out my old airbrush from last season and found some new teqniques from allen's dvd. that has to me the best $50 i've ever spent! And another cost cutter? Us at Arx Mortis have found that if we use a solution of acrilyc paint and waater, it looks just as good as the normal airbrush paint!

Seriously though, it is a fantastic DVD set.
We just had our first meeting, 3-25-11, with the majority of our haunt crew and I played disc 2 to give the actors an idea of what they were in for. THEY LOVED IT!

I used the acrylic thinned with water too when I was playing around. My only concern was cracking after a few hours into the night...anyone know if that's an issue mixing it that way?

Ye, the DVD is great! Lots of inspiration!!! I can't wait to have some free time to play around some more with it, but soccer mom season has started, LOL!

And great idea to show the DVD to your cast...my daughter was jumpy when I did her face....possibly the setting was a little too strong or it just caught her her off guard, but that was tough to overcome. And I only have a single action airbrush so I wasn't able to acclimate her with just air and no paint.

Last year, being my first year doing airbrush on myself, I used Mehron's liquid makeup from the Halloween store and cut that with an equal part water so it was liquid enough for the airbrush. I was worried the small bottles wouldn't be enough, but I SERIOUSLY used two drops of paint to two drops water & was able to cover my face doing a skull pattern. Still have plenty of paint left. I didn't have any problem with cracking and it didn't rain last season, so I didn't have to worry about my makeup running. It held up all night. I was reading somewhere on a different post where someone mixes the acrylic makeup with Ben Nye Final Seal. I'd be interested in trying the final seal with the liquid makeup!!

For jumpy models it helps to start the air and paint far away and then move into their face. It really helps acclimate them.

I don't have a dual action so when my air starts so does my paint, so I have a line when I do that. LOL, I thought it was just her being a goof so I sprayed my own face and jumped.... LOL. There's gotta be a way to fix that....or maybe it just means another trip to ACMoore for a spankin new dual action one, LOL! Sounds great by me!!!
