Credit card readers

So this year we are looking into buying a credit card reader to go along with our cash register or possibly another way because last year sucked!!!! We lost at least 50-100 people because we could only accept cash. I have looked into the square credit card reader (the one you plug into a smart phone and just enter in the phone how much the ticket cost is and wave it over the credit card and it automatically withdraws it out of their account and deposits it into your square account) does anyone else do this? And what other ways are there to do

We like the smart phone ones because it is mobile and emails them their receipt. We used to use xcharge for our stationary swipes but they messed up bad and tried to back pedal. We lost a few days of charges because of them.
No problems with intuint (sp) and iPhone or iPads.
