  • Rear Projection?

It's getting close to time to start building (pending the agreement we reached with the mall and they need to okay)...
Well, we wanted this year to take our Icon Character "Jack Shadow" (of Sleepy Hollow Theater) and instead of having the live actor do 200 speeches a night, use a rear projection in the doorway of a tomb/mausoleum. We are wondering how real/well this can be pulled off or if another method would work (with no live actor)...
    Any thoughts?
We are also thinking of having the room interact with the recording...(ie lights on/off, fog, door open, etc.)
    Thanks everyone in advance!

I have not seen anyone try it, but maybe project onto something like the Fog Curtain from the vortex fog chiller company (http://www.vortexchillers.com/fogcur...urtains.html)? Then it would be ghostly looking and if you time it to stop the fog and a quick fan burst they could then walk right through. Could be cool in theory...

To get the room to interact Id use a prop 1 from

Rear projection works well. If its a backstory great, but not for rules- do those before they enter the haunt.
Projecting onto a plastic shower curtain works pretty well. Do you have a projector lined up?
      if not...then check out

      Hope that helps,

Thanks Allen! Will check that stuff out!
It wouldn't be for rules...but more to 'set the atmosphere'.
Jack usually gives a creepy speech and sets the tone for the attraction.
        Thanks again!

If you need any assistance with show control (syncing other effects in the room to your video) just let us know. I would definitely use a digital video repeater for this effect.

              The "Jim" character.

Gave "speeches" for hours upon hours last weekend (to very intimate "groups"). Maybe if I wasn't so obsessive about informing customers?
I guess my "rear Projection" (if I had had any?) could have cut the time we spent in that first room.
As long as they are not solid,.... compared to solid, gaseous is good! (Even if it warps your nostrils smaller and burns nose hairs!

Jim...I totally expected some response like that from you...hehehe
Our actor portraying Jack Shadow has to 'sound' like Jack and was about bleeding in the throat (can you say honey and cough drops) by the end of the night...he is a trooper!

Allen...any chance the projector (we like it by the way) would work in a 'dimly lit' setting? We don't want the white sheet to show up? Also, can it be paused/turned on? If we do it on a loop what if the next group in takes longer? We need to reset it (manually is fine) fast...
                Thanks all!

cool link Allen. The ultrprojector seems to be something no haunt can do without. I think at that price I may buy a couple and play with some ideas ive had
I'm only doing this to impress 2 people ... The fire marshal and the customer that's it !!!

900 Lumens is not much but in a dimly lit room you will still get a good affect. The cool part about projection is you can do it on anything... and if you utilize cardboard / paper to distort the edges... or shooting on the same surface or background of where you are projecting - it looks like it's spotlighted.
We are doing this affect in 5 to 6 places this year and actually having a wall come to life.
The possibilities with projection are numerous and experimentation is worth it - especially at $200. That is a great investment.

I'm a fan of projected images and don't forget to utilize mirrors / glass etc to help reflect and distort your images!
