  • Semi-FREE Animatronics-robotics-pneumatics !!!

    Hey everyone!

So ill skip straight to the point. I own a new company and we'd really like to bring some new animatronics to the table. I have a BUNCH of ideas for new stuff but the downside is the funding to complete them, being as all other funds are being spent on other projects.

The basic idea of this is you will get a "Free" animatronic. The catch? You only pay for materials. You pay for everything needed to complete the project, we won't take a penny for our time or knowledge.

What are we getting out of it? With this, were getting the design to add to our product line and make available to other haunt owners. We merely want to make it, take some photos and videos and then ship it off to you. After this we can add it to our product line and have videos and such ready for transworld next year, or have a few made up to take to the show.

I'm not going to throw out my ideas on here because i don't want everyone to know what were up to, but we can go into some of the details if you email me.

Most of the ideas i have in mind can be made for $500 or less. I'm not a welder but i went to school for robotics. All of the stuff i have in mind does not need welds, but if your idea's do, we can either work around them, or i'll have someone come in and do the welding.

To discus all this in more details or to get a quote for material cost please email me at Jarred(at)shatteredfx.com

    Thanks everyone,

Getting quite a lot of emails and starting to run out of ideas! If you email me, please feel free to bring your own thoughts, if you can think it, we can make it- only for the cost of materials!!

      Jarred,
here are a few sites that help prime my pump when it comes to animatronic ideas.
      http://www.robives.com/mechs
lots of motions that can be up scaled into animatronics
      And
      http://synthetica.eng.uci.edu:16080/~mccarthy/

And the four bar linkage generator from this software pack
      http://www.boopack.com/software.html
      Get the ideas flowing!
      I hope this helps,
      Allen Hopps

Why not include the master of linkages- (in my mind anyway) Theo Jansen-

The Jansen guy is pretty amazing. It made me think that most breakthroughs of design have been born of the necessity to solve a known problem - NASA, Military, TVA era Hydro-electricity, have known what they're solving for before they begin to innovate. NASA for example had to learn to move very heavy, very tall objects along the ground to a launch pad, thus transportation innovation happens.

It seems this guy is organically creating novel mechanics for no reason than that he can - by doing so, he is likely solving "problems" we haven't uncovered yet. It may be that he does have some pragmatic scheme and I simply haven't uncovered it yet but he seems as much artist as engineer, a bit like Di Vinci.

It's also the mark of an advanced and wealthy culture that he can spend his allotment of time on this type of activity. Innovation and deferred gratification are the two traits that will always separate the "worlds" third through first.

Jansens work is amazing, I hope to meet him one day. If you think outside the box his work has amazing haunt potential.

I made one of these for a science project when I was a kid with popsickle sticks. LOL!
