  • Tent Ideas

I have a chance to buy four military style tents that are enormous for a very good price. They are 7' side walls that peak out at 12', 18' wide and 54' long. They are so cheap I could buy them just for the material but I am considering using them as extra square footage for my haunt, out the back or side of my building, or maybe the que line? What would you do, try to increase the haunt size or would that feel tacky? Any and all thoughts are appreciated because I can never guess what goes through the creative minds of this group. Thanks.

The 7' sides could make building interior walls a "challenge"
Don't know where you are located, but check with your JHA to determine if you need CSFM labels in the tents.
Depending on the material, these puppies could be really heavy.
I would use them either to expand the haunt or to have a separate, up-charge attraction(s) or maybe a covered area for food, etc.
In my neck of the woods, covered queue lines aren't needed

My vote is additional attraction space! Fearfest in Missouri does an outstanding job with tent attractions. So great in fact, you wouldn't know you're in a tent. As long as you detail your show out it shouldn't matter where you show is located.

Sneeky, do you have a theme for your haunt?

Assuming you are not trying to theme them in, my initial idea would be to use them as attraction space and not try to reinvent the wheel. First thought would be using them as a makeshift decontamination area as an exit and stage the tents like the military and CDC would use them in the event of a real decontamination scenario. Or turn them into trauma centers for an epidemic viral outbreak...lots of cots with horribly diseased people, that sort of thing.

        Good luck to ya!!

          Buyer beware

I Own a tent rental company and the military tents are not commercial grade. In fact I would not trust a set up over a long period of time do to storms and so on.

          Good luck

            Thank you!!!

Freak "n" stein, Thank you for the great comments about Fearfest. Our attractions are unique and sometimes I wish we had a normal building with a flat level floor but we have found ways to work around the issues.
In my opinion Tents or canopies are a great way to get rolling but check to see if you will be required to have sprinkler systems installed.
Our haunts have sprinklers systems in them. They are required by the county and the fire marshal.
If you have any questions that I might be able to answer just PM me and I will try to help you in any way I can.
Good luck with your tents if you decide to purchase them.

              Heavy man heavy!

I had a friend give me some Army tents last year, and they were so heavy I couldn't use them. I was going to use them to create a triage area with military stuff outside of the haunt. I gave up when we had a torrential downpour one night and the tents started floating away.
