I have a guillotine, but it's not an 18th century authentic model. It is a very solid built fully operational one though. The framework is heavy steel tubing and is covered with wood to give it a nice period look. When the trigger is pulled, the heavy steel blade drops with a great slide and bang and a pre-severed head, placed in the holder, drops into the awaiting basket. It stands about 8' tall and is pretty hefty. The body table is attached and folds up for storage or transport:

Your info says you're from St. Louis. I would figure out how authentic you want to go, what your budget is and then contact a few local companies.

These guys can give you the authenticity you may be looking for and the pieces will be large and heavy so shipping is a concern and they can just deliver.
Also they can give you the quality if it is indeed going into a museum setting. If you don't want a Halloween prop but a historical recreation, these guys are your best choice.
