We used black gerbils our first year in the haunt. They were great! Last year our Insurance company asked if we planned to have any live animals. I said no and we put all our ideas with live critters to rest.
I would love to see a fake rat tutorial!!

Ya Kim I had forgot about these videos you can get. Thanks for posting that. I know that damn snake would freak me the hell out! LOL! I hate snakes! But it might be a tight space to project unless its done from the top and shot down below. But it would still be cool either way to project or flatscreen tv. I think if filmed right w the proper lighting it would look pretty realistic. I dont think i would want jello running down me with real rats crawling around on me. There is a guy who works the queline at The Edge of Hell in K.C who uses a real rat. He puts it in his mouth and spits him out and catches him all kinds of stuff. We have pet the rat before he is nice. Alot of rats are really gentle I assume. I dont see fake rats haveing the same effect. You could use a few like here and there to make people believe there real. Also I dont know how my post popped up twice but its there. Ha!

By the way it may sound crual but feed them dog food its cheeap and it good for them. if you want pics of what we have done i will try to dig some up Happy haunting.....
If you could find the pics and post them here that would be great!

Oh yes Allen can make anything out of anything. He is the most talented man I have ever met. He can make a full blown animatronic angel monument from duct tape and baling wire. He never ceases to amaze me with his talent and vision. We are showing all of his DVD's to our crew this year. His acting DVD's are awesome not to mention his airbrush DVD's. We will have him out to our haunt to train mid season in 2012 for sure. So if says he can make a rat out of lint, I would believe him....

I actually bought a dvd at transworld this year that u can project on the floor or just use a flat screen TV and it looks like the rats are really crawling all around the floor. (It’s pretty realistic and looks really amazing)

Here is a link for the video i bought/ projectors i have and ill some how link a design so you can see what we did with this effect.

This is the video i bought at transworld

                              http://www.hauntedprops.com/product-...sion%20dvd.htm

And here is an example of a different dvd effect but shows you what it looks like when projected on the floor and in the middle of it it shows some mounting procedures.

                              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnDA64insAw

this is a really cheap projector that works really well with these effects ( but you cant project on a surface bigger than 12 feet wide / 12 feet tall due to the lumen ration on the small projector)
