There are a couple reasons... torture movies are becoming mainstream because it's so hard to shock modern audiences or really leave a lasting impression because of desensitization. Haunters struggle with that, too. As far as "explaining" everything, that probably has to do with realist horror movies becoming more popular. Film follows the trend... prequels and origins are in.

I'm not a huge fan of the Saw movies, either... but I can appreciate them for introducing a new generation to horror movies. You have to be careful always going... "they don't make'em like they used to." There are still good psychological thrillers and scary movies being made.

Behind the mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.

Half mockumentary about an aspiring serial killer, half 80's style slasher.

Almost no foul language and when the guy in the movie was translating on paper what the lady was saying and he wrote the curse words they where way more impactful. I was glad to see someone can tell a story with out all the foul language.

You make a good point! I need to be careful of giving the knee-jerk "old man response", ha ha. I'm not THAT old yet... Speaking of modern movies, some of the "Final Destination" movies aren't too bad (though they'd be more fun if Death was an actual entity). I do, however, refuse to see the remake of "Nightmare On Elm St."

I finally got to watch Insideous this afternoon. It started slow, bounced around and got worse and jumped ahead 3 months. Then, 30 minutes in the movie finally got to rolling at highway speed and was great from there on. I give it an 85, which is a solid B and would recommend it to anyone. The use of sound, from the underscores to Tiny Tim singing "Tippy, tippy. Toe throw the tulips" while the demon sharpens his claws were all excellent. Thanks for the recommendation!

This is a great little web series... pretty frightening. All about the Slender Man:

Sorry I could not figure out the YouTube wrap function.
