Hey guys, I'm looking into buying some knee and hand pads for some actor sliding. What brand and style do you guys recommend?

is the sliding indoors on smooth concrete or outside on asphalt?? Do you want elastic around the back of your knee or just 2 straps? Is it stunt sliding or just showman ship? I would always get the sheet rock knee pads at home depot. I like to be able to feel my fingertips when i have a glove on, the same goes for my knee pads. They have foam in the back for support and 2 simple straps in the back that you can adjust quick to tighten. They can be taken off and put back on with out hesitation. Inside its like your sliding on grease, especially if you have a pair of steel toes aswell. Outside on the asphalt I have found that I get the best performance out of these then any other knee pad I have come across. I guest spotted at Netherworld in 2008 and slid down the huuuuuuge hill down to the bottom attraction with these pads. I befriended the Yellow Imp Vulgaris(incredible slider) and asked if we could swap pads. Ben Armstrong was kind enough to let me take a pair of their knee pads(wich i dubbed Netherpads) back to Austin, Tx. (on a side note, getting a pair of knee pads from Netherworld and Ben Armstrong made me fee like I got some special armour in a game lol. +50 sliding attack) My actors and I tested the Netherpads out and they are excellent, layer of lexan plexi on top of the pad and they would duck tape the top and bottom of the pads so they wouldnt slip off in mid slide(every sliders nightmare). But we didnt need that much protection on the pad itsef nore did we have the time or resources to accomplish it. So we stuck with the $11 home depot pads, in a way they are disposable. Now the down side. I said I get the best performance out of them, never said i get the best protection from them lol. These pads slip more than a horse on ice. I have a huge gash in my knee from it slipping on me back in 09, my other actors do aswell. If you are slidding and cut the angle to sharp you can burn right through the strap and now you have a useless knee pad, unless you feel like sowing a new strap on it. The plastic itself does wear down over the course of 2 weeks of vigorous sliding, but since they are so cheap just dispose of the and buy another set. Or just give them to the actors inside as they still work perfect on smooth surfaces with burn holes in the pad. Another thing i would do is when i busted one is autograph it and toss it in the crowd, they love that one. The protec are probably the safest and most durabe, because they are designed to protect your knees during motion. Were as the sheet rock pads are made to rest on your knees while mudding. But Im a showman, I will always go for the look and wow factor to impress the crowd when it comes to myself. When it comes to my team, saftey first. Miguel Coronado III or Brandon LeJeune from House of Torment use these pads outsides aswell as the Icons in the lot. They got some insight aswell into these pads. For more visuals of how the pads look and work look for any youtube videos of house of torment circa 2005-2009 with SGT. Graves running amok, those are the only pads Id use.

Quick tip: When buying Pro-Tec pads, buy them separately and not in the packs with the elbow and wrist guards. These seem to hold up a little better. I buy mine at Dick's in the rollerblade section and the last set I bought was about $15...
I have also found them at skate and surf shops. When the season ends (around now) they tend to get big markdowns. I have a set I bought for $5 last year at Thanksgiving and I haven't strapped them on yet...Comment
