Hi, I've never had a problem or heard of a problem but it's not a bad idea to check for propane leaks before firing the old roaster off. A little dish detergent in a spray bottle will show bubbles at the site of a connection that needs tightening.

Every state, county, city, etc. are different. Your best bet is either talking to your fire marshall or whom every you deal with in your area, for example the city I live in I would deal with either my marshall or city inspectors.
