  • Looking for some Feed Back

I am looking for some feed back to see if my idea will work I would like to make a scar in the shape of the number 13 I was thinking about using a piece of scrap wood as the mold and burning the number 13 into it. I was then going to spray cooking spray on it and then fill it with silicone caulk the clear kind once it dried I was going to airbrush the color on it. Will this Idea work anyone try this before? also will liquid latex work to make it stick?

I would tint your silicone flesh tone and keep the painting to a minimum. Sometimes paint can flex off of a prosthetic and if you tint your silicone you would have better results with the color staying. I usually mix some silcone in whatever color I want (say your reds and blood for the inside carving) and paint it on so that it forms a better bond.

I'm not sure about using latex to attach the prosthetic, I've always used prosaide or spirit gum to attach with and I'm not sure how well latex and caulking play together...Allen would the the man to ask for that.

Also I've never carved and transferred in the manner you are planning. I sculpt with clay and then cast in plaster, which isn't as time consimng or hard as it sounds. Also, it might be easier to just put the silicone wet directly on your skin, smooth it out with the edge of a popsicle stick and when it starts to tack up, carve your number 13 into it. It would seem that would be less time consuming for ya.
    Good luck to you!

...and if all else fails I would be happy to make you one out of latex...

I don't think that silicone and latex play very well together. I would suggest medical adhesive. Mehron sells a good brand that is comparable to Prosaide.
        Your plan sounds pretty solid.

The short answer is no, it will not work- the longer answer is that it is way more complicated than the ways that will work.
          It wont work well because
silicone caulk will not dry against cooking spray- the oil stops the air from getting to it and that is how it dries.
It is very difficult to paint silicone- you need to paint it with silicone, nothing else will stick
Latex will not make it stick- very few things will stick to silicone

What will work is this process-
get peach or flesh tone glue stickes from glu-stix.com use a hot glue gun to write 13 on a silpat baking mat. Pee it off and apply with spirit gum or telesis or prosaide.

          Or this process-
Buy rigid colodion- paint 13 onto your forehead- your done

Or this one- buy Duo eyelash adhesive- draw the 13 on your head- dry with a hair dryer then make up over it- your done.

          Or this process-
Scribe 13 into a block of clay then paint/fill it with latex or a platinum silicone like gel -10 or dragonskin fx pro (I like gel 10 from bity mold supply). when it dries peel it off and attach it with telesis.

I hope this helps you out-

Thanks for the information I thought this would be the case but wanted to see if I could manage this with the materials I currenlty have avaialble to me. I may just use Cotton and liquid latex to make the 13 as a raised scar on the forehead. I have been trying to do something diffrent with my makeup each night at the haunt to see what works and what is possible in the short amount of time I have to get ready.
After this season is done I will be looking to expand my make up kit and skills more.
