  • Turning a HH into a non scary haunt?

How have you turned your Haunted House into a children's day haunt? What are safe characters for children for the actors?

We have our lights on tour coming up. We basically remove everything scary. Tour guides, dressed normally, take children through the haunt. All colored lights are replaced with white lights, no make up, costumes, etc. Discounted price and a great way to advertise your haunt.
Like a midget at a urinal, you gotta be on your toes

        We called it min-monsters day

Years ago when the haunt was only Jaycees, we tried for a couple of years. It was called "mini-monsters day". We advertised it a little. Charged a dollar, had some of the monsters in place with all giving candy out. Most important the house lights were on so there was no darkness. The monsters were in friendly mode.

It was run on the last Saturday of October in the middle of the afternoon.

Wasn't huge but it was a way the parents could bring the little ones. It also gave us away to convince the parents not to drag their little ones through the haunt during the regular season. We usually were able to talk the parents into not taking the kids through at night and bring them back later in the month.

One of the last years, we had a mother come out and demand to know why we didn't have a seperate route and not set up with the skeletons and scary stuff. There is virtually no gore in our haunt but she lost it in front of us and her kids the longer she talked about it. She really thought that we should have made up a haunt set up for the little ones for one afternoon for a dollar. At no point did she stop and say please escort us out, either.

The merchants on the area do a halloween parade and trick or treating and we have done it once with them but it has been a few years since we did it.

It is a good idea if done with consideration for the little ones.

you may wanna turn just a section into a kids haunt. Kids have very limited attention spans and if it take an adult and 1hr to walk it's gonna take a small child probably twice as long?
