  • Spinning room

Any ideas on how to put a spinning room together without making it to complicated? I want it to have an opening, then an actor can hit the button or remote once the last person in the group is through door closes and room starts to spin. Any thoughts on how to put this together without a platform from an amusement ride?

Might be easier and just as effective of an illusion to make the walls spin as opposed to the floor. Might even be able to go budget and to power it via actors or "ninjas" hand spinning it. Otherwise you would need a pretty serious motor any way you planned it to be able to move the floor with several people on it.

Jaks might be on to something. There's a ride down at Dutch Wonderland that uses that principle. Here's a clip I found after minimal searching that gives you a general idea. I remember being fascinated with that little house as a kid, trying to figure out how they did it.

Not spinning rooms, but some cool optical illusions here. I think this would be neat to work something like this into a haunt, playing with gravity to make it appear as if the gargoyle is perched on a wall, etc.

And if you're going for those kinds of effects, throw in an Ames room!

            Spinning Room

Just think of sideways vortex tunnel. A large hoop with a weighted fabric hanging from it. Any more complicated and you'll have problems getting people in and out over a frame.

How many people do you have to push through on any given night? That'll help us out, if you have time for room resets we can et elaborate, if you're doing 1000+ on an average night, we gotta find a way to KISS! (keep is simple shexay!!, stupid would have been inappropriate.)

we built a slanted room in our haunt. its really effective, we are having a slight problem because the effect is weakened without a ceiling, your eyes balance you and follow the building ceiling.

just a thought but what if your walls were projection screens or scrim cloth and the movement of the room came from a rear projector/projectors. no moving parts makes it a lil safer to operate.

you are creating a huge pinch point in your wall and your moving floor or moving wall. even with closing the doors first, you need to figure out some safety stuff.

i would recomend having it be actor operated too.

I know this is going to be a tough project and I am not certain we will have time with just purchasing the building. What I actually was thinking is buying a small amusement ride. I actually wanted to make the room full of doors. It was going to have a maze prior to getting into this room. Then once you entered the room an actor would shut and lock the door and start the spinning. I didn't want the floor to move but the walls. It would have nothing but doors on it to make them try to figure out which door to get out. It would be at the end of the haunt. Certainly a jam up point but thought if it's at the end it could be cool. Everyone loved our vortex so I wanted something at the end as a bang. Actually got this idea off of Phineas and Ferb cartoon......LOL.

Thanks for the ideas. Kim we will chat on Saturday.

We aren't sure on ppl per night being new but thinking 1000 to 1500 on busy evenings. We will be using about 15000-18000 sq ft this first year. Might need to hold off till next year.

How is this one done with the gravity room?

                              Build it.

                              1) throw away your level (The bubble-stick thing)
                              2) make the floor angled but not so steep as to not be able to walk across it.

There are some crooked floors in my haunt, they were already here when I bought the house, some people think I made them like that.
