Custom CGI work?

I always see someone posting something about looking for CGI artist, so I thought that I would drop this note for people. Being a 3D artist myself or when ever I'm working on some film, tv or game project, I visit these sites regularly and would recommend anyone looking for artist check them out. They are website typically used by both students and professionals working from the film and game industry. If your in the need for some seriously talented artist, both starting their education or someone looking for some extra freelance work while they are working at Pixar or Digital Domain, I would recommend that you check them out.

1. CGTalk (http://www.cgtalk.com) - You can't post a job posting here as they only allow vfx / game houses to post full time jobs, but you can go thru the Portfolio section and find some really talented artist. You can always send them an email and ask if they are open to freelance work (I've done this before to find some really mind blowing great artist). Students love to post their work here to get the attention of large studios and game companies, so if you find some that say's their in SCAD or Full Sail and ask them to do some pro work for pay, they will hop at the chance because it's money and your adding to their portfolio. Some may even do the work for free in exchange for putting in their demo reel. Just something to consider.

2. Animation World Network (http://jobs.awn.com) - You can post a traditional job posting here. You can find modelers and animators typically here for both 3D and 2D work. Very good resource for more film and tv based artist.

3. Gamasutra Contractors (http://www.gamasutra.com/contractors...or_display.php) - Now this is a contractor base for 3D artist from the Game Industry, but many games are so high in poly's that they are practically film quality and can easily help you with any CG needs you have. Many may even be doing the trailers for the games many are playing. If I'm working on a large project and need to subcontract multiple parts out, you can find many individual artist with great rates or you can find a whole company to provide you a quote and timetable.

Some other great resources for finding more traditional artist. I visit these sites when I'm looking for concept artist and other 3D related technical artist.

3. ConceptArt.org (http://www.conceptart.org) - Great place for finding 2D concept artist. If your looking for someone that can make magic on pen and papper to Photoshop magicians, check this out. Again, you've got artist visiting from schools like SCAD, Full Sail, Academy of Arts to professional artist from ILM, Digital Domain, Pixar, etc...

These are the sites off the top of my head that I deal with on regular bases. If I can think of anymore, I'll let you know. But I've found incredibly talented artist from those for projects I've been responsible for. I was going to put this all in a article on HauntersDigest.com. A lot of haunts could make some seriously great visual effects affordably without spend thousands of dollars because of the great artist on these sites.

If anyone needs any advice or help, let me know and I might be able to point you in the right direction. I occasionally have some friends of mine that are currently working for game or film studios that are sometimes looking for some side work when they have some downtime between projects or are looking for a new challenge doing something fun.

You might try Kitsie Duncan and her husband Chris Jay. I spoke with him at an event earlier this year and seem to remember him mentioning offing CGI work. I'm not sure if they do it through their company, Fearmart, or just on the side.
