  • Trade shows attendance?

Does anyone know the average foot traffic for the 4 major trade shows? Transworld, IAAPA, Midwest Haunters and Hauntcon? Their sites don't really advertise how many people each trade show garners a year.

    Show numbers

IAAPA had about 26,000 attendees in 2011 and was actually 3% up from 2010. Transworld is round about 5,000 attendees. Midwest HC has around the same as Transworld, and HauntCon is a little less attended than the others I'm told, but I've never been. However, it depends on what you are going for and what you are buying/selling/wanting to do to determine which one to go to. If you are only looking for haunted house stuff then IAAPA only has 4 or 5 sole haunt companies there. If you are looking for concessions and food items Transworld didn't have much of anything there. If you want to sell haunted house props Transworld outsells them all by a mile, and If you are looking for haunt tours etc. then the others have more haunt tours etc. You just have to pick your shows based on what you want. I've been to IAAPA the last 10 years but I will prob. skip this year just because there is not that much new stuff coming out for me to keep going back. It is easy to get on the internet and shop now, but there is nothing like seeing the stuff in real life at the shows. Hope this helps.

You gotta be careful for what you ask for....

        Gentlemen,

There is an elephant in the room that no one is talking about.
(No, not me, and yes I know I need to go on a diet, but lets discuss that later.)

In the convention world there are two numbers when cons talk about "attendee count"

There is THE NUMBER OF UNIQUE GUESTS, these individuals get counted once.
( Let's say Bob goes on Friday and Saturday and Sarah goes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.)
The count for Bob and Sarah would be TWO.
This is the number we try to count for vendors as one person = one wallet.

        AND

There is THE TOTAL GUEST COUNT
( Let's say Bob goes on Friday and Saturday and Sarah goes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.)
The count for Bob and Sarah would be FIVE.
Many conventions utilize this number to "pad" their numbers.
We don't believe in this but some cons do
(and they may not necessarily be trying to pull a fast one, it's just the way some cons count.)

So vendors - ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be sure to ask *WHICH* number you are getting !!

          6,000 people?

6,000 people looking? 1,000 buying? 200 buying big ticket items?= 5,000 people in the way!? hahahaah!
Not me. I wasn't in anyone's "Way", I was here.
One rule: Venders keep renting the floor space as long as it will be profitable for them to do so.

No way that MHC has anywhere near as many attending as Transworld. The show floor was 1/10 the size of Transworld. Granted this year Transworld seem much smaller, but it was still packed. We did a bag insert and they requested 6,000 copies of it. The coupon book that we printed we made 4,000 copies of.
