Okay the big opening was last night! Who went?! Someone I know went! Jay from Juneau Studios went. He called me before and after the haunt. Now be honest did it meet the hype?! Will it meet the hype! And do you think it has staying power? Something I read about it today shocked and amazed me! If I read right its open 24 hours a day! And they signed a 30 yr lease w Planet Hollywood. So wow they are in it for the long haul! Im sure after the buzz dies they will not be 24 hrs but it is Vegas Baby! Lets hear your reviews! Im planning on going sometime in the new year. Probably in late March or mid April. Vegas weather isnt bad then. And by then all the bugs will be worked out and the actors should be prime! So lets hear those reviews!

Tentatively planning a trip in mid-november with some of the crew...

Probably staying at my favorite old-school casino- the nugget...

One of our cast members from last year moved home and is now working at the Goreatorium. Will be nice to see him again.

I know they have POURED money and resources into this project. They purchased several custom video effects from us for the attraction and I really think they're some of the best we've ever produced...but unfortunately I can't show them to you! They purchased exclusive rights to the videos so if you want to see them you'll just have to go down there and see them for yourself. I know the wife and I will be going out around the first of the year and can't wait to see the place. I see big things for their future and we have already been talking with them about their franchising plans and possible future locations.

        Exciting...

I doubt very seriously they build another one anywhere... a year around haunted house on that level I don't even know if it can survive there much less anywhere else. If you go to another tourist spot like Niagara for example you can't even find an open space, neither can you in say Myrtle Beach, blah, blah... the cost to open one would be outrageous if you had to buy a space and build from scratch. You go to Orlando for example and everything closes down within a year, because Disney and Universal simply own the town. There use to be year around haunts there and they all closed including Terror on Church street. Then you take like Branson their year around haunt also closed down. All the haunts in Niagara for example make it because they simply scrape by, with very low budget haunts with two staff members.

Just recently have tourist trap type attractions opened in Vegas like the Kiss Mini Golf and a few other things... hard to tell if they will survive in a city built on the casinos. We'll see... but expansion sounds tough to me! I know about every single year around haunt that has ever opened and almost all of them other than Ripley's have closed down at one point or another.

The rent they are paying there has to be outrageous ...

You take the franchise Jekyll Hyde they tried to take that concept out of New York and that bombed... all closed within a year! I know I went to the auctions!

          Just some insight!

Speaking of Eli Roth was he the actor in the Halloween Episode in American Horror Story because its not credited on IMDB. I thought that was him but I wanted to know if it was him. If he was the one in the episode he was great! Larry

So how is it... I was told by a friend who went there over the weekend that Eli was there at the bar. He was talking to Eli for like an hour about the place. Apparently several of the video FX vendors sent where not good enough and got yanked out of the attraction. I heard it was very detailed like an old hotel and has a bar inside, an elevator fx, and overall was very detailed. The guy is a movie guy so I'm sure he has some high standards! I will go check it out myself soon!

First, let me clear things up.

                  1) It is NOT 24/7. Don't know who advertised that, but it isn't. It's not even *7*. Closed Sunday/Mondays, with a 7pm-2am schedule when it IS open.

                  2) Some of us locals were invited to a sneak peek before it opened. We RSVPed, got our confirmations, stood in line 2 plus hours and got turned away. So, I can't give you a review, but from one friend that did make it in, said it was average, and also rather SHORT for something charging $40 a head.

I do hope to get there sooner or later, once I cool down from being "steamed up" from the sneak peek treatment that I, among others, received. I hope to be able to give an unbiased review by then. But until then, nothing will live up to the hype that this place has been stirring up in this town. Good and bad.

It was very detailed. When you arrive there is a bar called Blood Mary's near the entrance. Quite a few actors out front scarring the mall guests. Ticket prices are $40 or $35 if you buy online or get a coupon.

We ended up waiting in line for quite sometime because they were having some power problems. Eli Roth was there and he came up apologized and said he was going to buy us all a drink in the Baby Dolls lounge which is near the exit and provides a great view of the strip. Eli was nice and down to earth.

Overall, I thought it was a great event. Highly detailed with great set lighting. Unfortunately they take you in large groups so it was kind of a conga line and saw many of the scares beforehand.

There is a huge elevator set with some neat video projection effects that were well done. The whole theme is carried nicely through out the attraction (that of a decrepit hotel).

It took us about 20 mins to walk through but it would have been quicker if the group in front of us wasn't so slow. They had a decent amount of actors and I can see this place hopping closer to Halloween.

I enjoyed the attraction and although somewhat expensive (but isn't all of Vegas) it is Hollywood detailed and well done! I recommend it.

Just wondering if this is true? This is what ive heard. And if it is true are you still not able to share them with us? If they truely did get taken out of the attraction. Was hoping to see what you did. Sorry to hear this.

                          Damon,

Yes, it's true that many of the custom effects we produced are not currently in use in the attraction. We only found out about this a few days ago. We are working with the designers to see if there is anything we can do for them to remedy the situation, but we're not sure at the moment what the future will hold for said effects. The truth is the project has had many "cooks in the kitchen". The problem is that the creative director is not the final say in the attraction and many of our effects have been pulled because decision makers have disagreed with the direction we was going. Unfortunately, all this came about within the last couple weeks. We produced five effects for the attraction. Here's what we know and what we speculate...

We know that the two custom protraits we produced for the opening scene were scrapped because the management felt they took too long to develop. The entire show length was under a minute, but they felt that was too long. Unfortunately, this and every other decision was made before they actually let any audiences actually view the effects so we may never know what the public would have thought of the pieces. We are currently working with them to see if a shortened version of the effects can be produced to get these reintegrated into the haunt.

We know that a large boiler effect we produced is in use, but that the pepper's ghost style effect that showed a flaming face fly out of the boiler is not being used. We're not sure on that one, but speculate that the actual projection effect, which we were not responsible for constructing, didn't pan out as the designers had hoped so that portion of the effect was scrapped.

We know that a slot machine gag we created is being used currently.

Lastly, we know that an industrial oven effect we produced is not being used and, honestly, we don't even have a guess as to why on that piece.

It's unfortunate that the creative director didn't have more control over the finished product. I got the impression that many of his ideas were being scrapped last minute. It's also unfortunate because the attraction paid a lot of money for these effects that now aren't being used. Like I said, we're going to see if we can help them get these effects integrated sometime in the future, but we're not sure if we'll work it out or not. I think, in the end, it's really a matter of many competing visions with no clear project manager to make final decisions and keep the whole thing on track. We definitely wich them the best and, hopefully, we can get the effects that they paid for to use for them in the future.

And, just to clear up any questions that are being raised about the quality of work we produced, here's a chunk of one of the video portraits we shot. For the sake of the attraction, I've removed the audio and the beginning and ending portions of the video. This is simply the meaty portion that's really effects and makeup heavy that I particularly enjoy.

Damon, barring anything better, if you find yourself in St. Louis let me know and I'd be glad to have you over to the shop, show you around, and let you see the files that we have. It's not the same as seeing the finished pieces...but it's something!

Oh, and for some reason I can't find the finished photos of this thing completely assembled...but here's a shot of the furnace we built and the other shot is the doors for it. If I find the finished photo with the doors on it and the couple little gauges we added I'll post it later but for now...you get the idea. I absolutely love the way this came out and...believe it or not...it's ALL wood and PVC!

                              Kip,

Honestly what I was told was that they didn't like them, so they wouldn't put them into their attraction. I don't know how you didn't know this because a couple days ago you raved about how they loved them, best stuff you ever did, they are going to expand across the nation, now today they didn't like the FX and pulled them out of the show. Like you said lots of cooks in the kitchen, clearly whomever you are talking to is telling you one thing, and the people who really are building/owning the place are saying another. Sounds confusing.

I just can't believe two days ago they loved this stuff so much and now today they don't...

All I can say is Eli is use to the highest quality stuff working in the film industry, and most of what we see in the haunt industry is not good enough for a Hollywood movie while some is... I think Eli wanted this haunted house to be like a movie and he wanted movie quality FX, and your stuff just isn't to that standard. I have told you many times myself that some of the stuff just isn't there, while some of it is really good. I think for the haunt industry it might be good enough but for someone in the movie industry it just isn't.

I think you ought to suggest to them you can resell it for them since they won't be using it... help them get their money back. I bet you'd have a ton of haunts lined up to buy it!!! Just a thought! They might really appreciate that. I bet if you posted here on the forums they'd buy that stuff up the same day! There is just a difference between what you do CGI wise and what a movie director would expect... but for the haunt industry its great.

I wouldn't take it personal because I bet several haunts would love to have it.

If you need help re-selling it let me know I'll help you get the word out!
