Airbrush gun

What is a good airbrush gun to buy to paint props/masks? Aren't there usually some set up at Transworld? Thanks.

Are you looking for high end or cheep ones that will get the job done. Harbor freight for cheep job ones and pasche for high end. Its really about skill of the person with it in their hand when it comes to air brushes, mine could be gold with diamond studs and I would still suck. Allen Hopps has a video or some thing on this too I think.

Grex may be TOO much for what you need, but they're always set up at TW and I love stopping into their booth testing the Tritium Pistol Style brush. AWESOME. Easy to use, great control...

I had a Grex genesis. It loved to clog, it clogged like crazy. I use harbor freight and a pasche VJL?.....its about $80 and is a work horse. I also have a European body art Zero G. I love my zero G and I use it for make up all the time.
Honestly start with a $20 Harbor freight gun and see if you like that well enough to invest in a better airbrush.

i have the grex pistol grip and really enjoy it since i talked to the reps last year at tw at first i had many problems with it but after talking to he people at tw they informed me on a lot of things i was doing wrong ...ie ...mixing differant types of paints and makeups and making it clog alot ....if you go to the show make sure you stop by them and try it out...its the best ive ever delt with ....and its a nice set up they sell ...pricey but nice ....great for makeup

I actually went to HF and bought two cheap brushes for makeup this past season. CLEARLY I don't know the right quantity to mix cause I bought liquid makeup from Mehron and clogged the SHIT out of my two brushes within minutes!! I was constantly trying to clean them but found it too much work. The year PRIOR I used my mother's brush which was a good quality brush. It really came down to mixing the paint cause even that one clogged. When I used 2:1, water: paint it took a lot of layers to get a decent color and I'm not even certain that prevented clogging. HAHA. I ended up just hand brushing paints all season and that worked BEST for me!! I can only imagine trying to figure out mask paints O_o !!!!!!!!!!!

I use Iwata's. Have Pasche's also. Last year Pasche, Grex, Iwata, and one I can not remember the name was at Transworld. I have found that Mehron's liquid makeups quality has dropped ever since manufacturing went overseas several years ago. Ben Nye , and the high end liquids spray fine. Mehron is a lot grittier, and not consistent from bottle to bottle, and some colors can be a real pain. We mainly use Mehron because of cost, and doing 25-35 detailed airbrush actors along with our others getting Wolfe bros' or grease paint. I do have a small bottle mixer, available at Global TCP that really helps getting liquids to a flow nice. It is a little set of blades on a shaft and is battery powered. Cutting with Ben Nye Final Seal which also aids with flow and lasts great. Hope this can also help you.
