  • c02 blaster

I was wondering if any of you who use a c02 blaster know how much c02 you go through, how big of a tank do you use? and how much are you paying for refills?

    Thanks.

We (Froggys Fog) had one at the show. The 25 pound tank that they strapped to my back lasts about 3 minutes or so. Thats why you do quick short bursts of it. Depending on your actor depends on how much you will go through. Also depends on your account with AirGas but its on average 20-25 dollars to refill the tank. I wanna make sure you also know that you have to train your actor on how to use the gun....make sure they know not to shoot it at peoples faces as shards of ice sometimes come out of the gun.

thanks Tater I wasn't thinking the gun though, more like cannon type use for a blast of steam from bursting pipe. I know haunted supply sells them.
Penhurst asylum had one that as you walked under this one spot it shot down above ur head. Not sure if they used anything to block these ice particles.

figured a mat switch for a quick 1-2 sec burst

                Co2 costs?

I would be interested as well. I know my wife has to buy the tanks for shows they do at the club she runs, and for one show the will use one to two big tanks. And they are expensive.

again wasn't asking a selling price.

asking how much gas this type of unit would use, if done in 2-3 second burst.

10 minutes on a Dewar tank

I did some digging with some of the production houses. Attached is a paper that tells you how long a tank will last. According to Atlanta Special FX:

You need one of two tanks.
                        1) A 50 pound high pressure siphon tube tank. Make sure the tank has a liquid siphon tube with
the pipe that drops to the bottom of the tank to get the liquid C02.
                        2) A Dewar tank which is a low pressure refrigerated tank.

High pressure has 1.5 min of effect. Dewar tank has 10 minutes of effect. The average blast is 2 seconds.
They rent Cryo effects and sell them as well. If you are on the East Coast these would be a good source, although there are many others.
