  • Custom Cave Material

    Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some suggestions on materials for making a cave. It's going to be outside on the midway of a theme park. Right now, I'm thinking it's going to be approximately 10ft wide, 8ft tall, and 15ft long. I need some kind of spray-on latex or fake-concrete material and something for it to attach to. I'm thinking the formations of the rocks will be sculpted out of chicken wire.

    Any suggestions I'm all ears!

Spray foam insulation. Make your shell out of 2/4s and screen. Call your local company and have them spray it. Make sure you get the foam that cures with a hard shell. Works great.

I know alot of people have had great success with this fire rated foam, http://www.tigerfoam.com/ . Spray right on to the chicken wire.

getting the spray foam kits and everything might just put you near the cost of just buying the rock panels from Nethercraft. Ethan's cave at Hundred Acres Manor is PHENOMENAL and is made from them.

            Cave stuff

I spray my foam with exterior concrete products. The stuff I use is called "STO." It is also called Ameristone or drivet. Go to a contractor that specializes in exterior finishes. I buy the stuff that has been mis-colored and add my own color. 5 gallons costs about $25. It comes in different textures so make sure you like the texture you buy.

            Best of luck.

                  Response to question

I use a hopper from lowes. Cost about $60 and as long as I keep it clean, no issues. Hell, I shot concrete through it just today. I think it is a Kobalt brand. Nothing fancy but works fine. Best of luck. I have left foam outside all winter with this stuff on it and It held up perfectly.

                      Shooting foam

Yep. Texture hopper. One thing you may want to do is drill out the orfice a bit if you are shooting heavier stuff. Just FYI. Remember to ask for the stuff that is mis-tinted otherwise$$$$$
