  • Hand rail shock

Does anyone know how to shock people when they grab a hand rail? Just a little buzz. I can't find any good video's.

Not sure how well it would work to wrap a shock matt around a handrail. I was thinking more of wiring a metal handrail with a current that can be triggered.

        Fake shock

Not sure if this will help or not but I remember an old arcade game for the Addams Family movie that had two metal rods you would have to hold onto that would vibrate really hard simulating a shocking sensation. The whole idea was to see if you could hold on until the end. Had a wonderful sound too it as well. Just hearing the motor gearing up as it increase intensity was scary. Might be a lot more costly to do something like that but just an idea.

I remember reading about a shocking hand rail years back. I had hard to find catalogs from companies that sold magic, gag and specialty equipment. There was a company in Illinois that designed and built props for secret organizations and or clubs. These clubs had initiation "torture" devices and "teaching a lesson" props. One of them, was a metal hand rail that looked like plumbing pipes. They wired up a current to pass through it and flipped a switch when people walked. I have no idea how they made it. I am further unsure who that company was. They were big in the 1930s. Maybe a google search in images will give you some help.

Another thing you might like to try is having a narrow path with handrails on either side. The path could be tilted or wobble so that people will use the railings. But, maybe one of our electrician haunters would know more about how to do this, have one current running down one railing (left side) and then have the opposing current running down the other (right side). When people walk through here there is no shock. It is only until someone touches both rails at the same time that they complete the circuit and get shocked. That way not everyone will get shocked at the same time...and this would be confusing enough to where people cant figure it out and tell each other not to touch the rails.

That is what I am talking about. Hopefully someone will explain how to do it.

I have talked to an electrician and he said there are too many unsafe reasons not to try this. There are people with pacemakers and the like that could fall and possibly harm someone.

How about a small vibrator motor? Not an electrical shock but safe and startling
