Not sure, I guess I'd know it when I see it, I need to do more research but most searches for asylums obviously turns up ruins and details and/or furniture or decor has been removed. Do you recommend any source for researching for this theme?
I think you are better off looking for hospital stuff because they are sort of one in the same and more likely people will see those types of props as coming from a hospital not an asylum. I would think the kids of things you should be looking for are really simple few hospital beds, wheelchairs, medical equipment, and every asylum can have a creepy basement with a boiler, pipes, electrical boxes, blah, blah.
Furthermore I think you could be doing a security room and we sell that DVD for that... you can make padded rooms easy and you can build creepy asylum doors although I would be on the hunt for some old metal doors but no one would list that stuff as coming out of an asylum. See my point?
I do not have an easy answer for character props. It seems like most of the vendors offer a couple that could fit the bill. I'm sure Distortions has a few that could work for you.
There are public auctions for medical equipment as well. You might even try Craigslist for medical equipment, gurneys, etc.
I hope this helps a little. Your haunt is fantastic and I'm sure whatever you do with the asylum theme will be great. Best of luck this season!!
Thanks Horrorman666 I appreciate the compliment and info. My mother works for Johns Hopkins hospital and I have scored gurneys and wheelchairs from them, props I'm adding a few more have a nice mix. Just looking to tie it all in and see what else I could add.
The main item you need is lots of signs not everyone will read them all but the few they catch will tell them where they are at. electroshock therapy, surgery, dispensary, laundry and so on
Allan,
Have you ever walked through second chance Baltimore? http://www.secondchanceinc.org/index...tags=Furniture They have a massive warehouse near the Ravens Stadium and they have reclaimed furnature from commercial and residential settings. They have all kinds of crazy stuff. I don't know if they have asylum but you can spend a whole day shopping through there. We just got railing and a early 1900s chandelier from them for about $300. Worth a shot.
