  • Health Care for Actors

OK I think I know the answer to this question but i'm going to ask it anyway. My haunt requires around 70 actors/parking/misc.help to run. The total number of hours we are open is 66. If everyone will be paid minimum wage, and they will be part-time obviously, will I have to provide health insurance? I know if you have less than 50 FTE then you are not required to provide health insurance but what about 70 part-time employees?

Taken from https://www.healthcare.gov/shop-calculators-fte/ sorry for posting a link but it kind of prooves the point...

"Part-time employees are those who worked on average less than 30 hours per week, but more than 120 days per year."

Please check with yor accountant to confirm, I am not an HR professional/IRS agent/Health Care Specialist so cover your assets to be sure.

No because if they did require it more or less every small business would be out of business. Business shouldn't be required to supply health care in the first place, one of the main reasons why so many business ship their jobs overseas. At some point you need to control health care costs but regulating the industry totally and or just do what Canada does and make health care free via taxes.

Why strain business owners especially the smaller ones who barely can stay in business.

The long and short is NO THANK GOD!

I'm with Larry if we had to pay for health care we probably couldn't open our doors. Seasonal business is just that seasonal. Half the actors who start the season don't even finish sometimes. That would be very hard to do.

I almost had a heart attack when I started reading this thread. For a second I thought you were saying we had to provide health care tied to Obama Scare. LOL GZ
