      An update from Kelly:

I’ve been getting phone calls from friends after seeing the story on the local tv news. So here’s the scoop for my friends.

"On Sunday afternoon; we had a 3” sprinkler line break at the haunt. Several thousand gallons of water poured into the haunt; over about a dozen scenes of the asylum. It set off the smoke detector which triggered a call to me and the fire department. Fortunately I was driving nearby and made it there in less than 5 minutes. Water was pouring into the building from the drop ceiling in an area about 40’ x 80’ and initially the fire department thought there was a partial roof collapse. We’d had about 9” of snow the day before on top of previous snow and ice. This was radioed out on the fire department communications; which caught the attention of the news media.
After they determined the roof was intact; we figured out it had to be a sprinkler line. We turned the sprinkler valve off, but water continued to pour into the building for about another 4 hours and then it trickled for another day. Needless to say we have a big watery mess to deal with. Many of our props and walls are soaked and we lost lots of ceiling tiles. Some of our sound systems got wet along with our lights and animatronic props. We will start cleaning up this weekend and moving props to a dry area to see what can be salvaged.
Fortunately no one was hurt and it occurred when the building was empty and we have months to repair the damage before opening this fall.
The sprinkler repair company will be there tomorrow to finish the pipe repair. We’ll tackle the remaining water with shop vacs and pumps. Then we’ll bring in some fans and blowers/heaters to help dry everything out. We’ll get through this. We have a fantastic team of actors and builders willing to assist. I’ve even had haunters from out of town contact me asking what they can do to help. Word spreads fast in this tight community. I love this industry, so glad to have so much support."
