  • What are some more ways to startle guests in Haunted house?

What are the best startle noise ideas to startle guests in a haunted house besides actors.

    The shaker can

Well it is still one of the best startle scares I have seen! I "borrowed" the idea from the Darkness when I worked it during a haunt show one year. It is a gallon gas jug, spray painted black, with a handful of nuts and bolts in it! Screw the lid on tight, and shake away. Give it to someone in a gilly suit hiding in the bushes and it will scare the toughest guy! You can't go wrong with a pow stick from fright props either!

I guess this would still be considered and actor (as would the ghillie suit / nuts and bolts idea), but you can't go wrong with a drop panel.
It's an oldie, but a goodie.
It's consistently one of the best startle scares in our haunt.

We had a guy take a gas can, fill it 1/4 way with water and dump it on the fire in the yard while people were standing around. Hilarious

I used to keep a gas can behind some bushes filled with water and would drink from it from time to time. Freaked out a good number of people...

We use all kinds of stuff...

Ghost Ride sells these crackle gloves and they are excellent. You can get tin drinking bottles fill them full of nuts and bolts to make shaker cans. But if we are staying simple air cannons, sound fx that your actors can trigger, or even jail bars that can bang back and forth. Anything that makes a lot of noise.

              5 v crimp roofing

Take a piece of 5-v crimp metal roofing, 2-3 feet long, hang it off of a ledge and smack it with a stick or pipe. crazy loud. Just watch the edges, they can be sharp.
