  • Triggering Audio Tracks

Any ideas on how to trigger the playing of a non-looping audio track? It must start from the beginning of the track each time...

    Any advice is good advice,

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Efx-tec

A Prop-1 and an AP8 card from www.efx-tek.com is exactly what you need.

Well, it's nice, but I'd rather not setup a PC just to trigger a single sound effect.

      Thanks though.

The prop-1 is a standalone board. You program it from a PC but after that it goes by iteself.

How long is your audio track? The 20 second sound recorders sold by RadioShack are simple to hack for this as well if you are looking for a cheaper solution to use with an existing amplifier.

definitely shorter than 20 seconds. although the quality of those things is far from quality...

Actually, when properly modified they are just fine. They use the same chip as any other chip-based recorder. You just need to run line-level right into it bypassing the mic and then take the output to an amplifier.

Personally, I now prefer the AP8 since it has an onboard amp and no mods needed.

I see. I might try out the AP8, but am I forced to also use a Prop-1. Or can I trigger with another timer?

This is really what looks most efficient to me, with no use of a PC.

Although, Radio Shack does not longer carry the recorder module...

                    This might work?

                    Any ideas?

                      RadioShack still carries a recorder:

                      http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...tId=2102855&cp

They do not carry the amplified speaker that is listed.

As I mentioned, I took the hack a step further and bypassed using the speaker as a mic and ran a line input straight into it.

The Ebay listing looks like a nice board but not much info. Is all of the I/O through USB? Doesn't really say but that would be nice. Doesn't mention drivers or software with it.

The AP8 is triggered serially so it would require some sort of controller. If all you are doing is sound it would probably be overkill. Now sound with prop activation and or lighting is another story...
