SPFX Mask "review"

Just got my first SPFX mask in the mail this morning. Let me cut to the chase... GREAT PRODUCT AND SERVICE!

Let me start by saying that Rusty and the crew there provided exceptional customer service -- particularly at this time of year. Due to my late order I really did not expect to see it before November (if I was lucky). They not only shipped it on time, but two weeks AHEAD of the promised date.

As for the mask itself, it is certainly the best mask I have ever owned. The detail is impressive. The range of movement and expression, while not as good as that offered by foam latex prosthetics, is still great for a mask. If you need maximum expression then this might not be for you, but if you want to be able to get in character FAST then this is your ticket out of the makeup chair.

I think it was definately worth the money and the service provided by the folks at SPFX masks was tremendous.

I guess you could "glue down" at SPFX masks for optimum expression... like Pros-Aide/Medical Adhessive. Don't think that because it's an "expensive masks" that you can't modify it!

I don't think medical adhesive (pros aide) would work. I believe you would need silicone adhesive. Not sure though.

I am going to try some stuff to get a better fit and improve the expressiveness. I was thinking of inserting a foam latex chin piece (or gluing that to my face) and wearing a beanie cap to take up some more head room.

I am wondering how makeup and blood gel would do on it... whether or not it would damage the silicone. Anyone know?

I would believe it would stain the mask. I put a call into my buddy Rusty for ya. Told him you had a question on the board.

Scream, You can use telesis silicone adhesive for your mask. Also feel free to modify the mask to fit you. I would recomend using sheet foam in the back of the head. wash your mask with dawn dishwashing soap and rinse well. Turn the mask inside out. get GE silicone 1 caulking from a hardware store. inbed the silicone caulking into the foam the put some caulking onto the inside of the back of the mask...apply the sheet foam to it and weigh the foam down on the mask. wait 24 hours.....and presto....a tighter fit. Our masks do fit most but there can be some exceptions. Give me a call if you need some help. 310 823 4740. Hope this helps. Rusty

Awesome Rusty, thanks again! If you are still here... and this might sound dumb... but what is sheet foam? Also, since you are answering questions, would things like blood paste, cake or cream makeup have any negative effects on the mask material that you know of?

And for everyone else, do not get the wrong impression about the fit. It is VERY good right out of the box. I am just really anal about appearances, I like everything to be perfect.

Scream Sheet foam is the foam found i your couch. Apostry foam is the correct name. Go on line and find a supplier near you. NOTHING STAINS SILICONE

We are using the Thug mask for a character of our latest production,
Edgar Wallace's "The green archer" and it worked out phantastic.
We glue the mask around the mouth area, on the nose and around the eyes a little
with telesis silicone adhesive and it's fab. We clean it up with a little of isopropanol
on a bit of cotton wool so it stays clean. The actor is happy with it, the audience loves it, the producer is happy. So go on and have fun with it.
